“We make 7 percent of the [global] mask supply,” Bowen explained on Steve Bannon’s “War Room: Pandemic” podcast. “China has steadily been taking away our mask business. In a few years, it will all be owned by China – they sell the mask for less than I can buy the material.
“America’s hospitals want to save money. The way America’s hospitals buy products – it’s all rigged. GPO, group purchasing organization, bid these things out. They’re looking for the low price, that’s China. That’s why all this happening.”
The United States is also entirely reliant on Chinese manufacturing for nearly all pharmaceutical drugs, generic prescriptions and over-the-counter product supplements and medicines – including penicillin and vitamin C. If US-China tensions worsen, China could cut off antibiotic exports, throwing our hospitals into turmoil.
Bannon, a former top adviser to President Donald Trump, warns these foreign dependencies are at the heart of what it means to be made in America.
“In order to have a secure nation, it’ more than just tanks and soldiers and missiles, there is health security. We are now paying the true cost of the China price, with this just-in-time inventory,” he said. “This globalization. It wasn’t just about taking jobs, which is bad enough, it wasn’t just about stripping our factories out of here. It’s left us exposed as a nation.
“We are now supplicants to our enemies. That is unacceptable and I know that is one of the reasons why Donald Trump is president of the United States.”

Don't think it would be effective in keeping Creepy Joe away though...
You would need a total hazmat suit with a separate air supply to be completely protected from the virus.

I call BS.
The part about our dependency on China for medical stuff needs to end. That part is true. But it doesn’t spell doom for the following reasons.
It turns out that we have a National Strategic stock pile of basic medical items like masks. Who knew? I think I read that the Federal government has a million masks in storage.
So we would have some time to ramp production. My guess is that companies are already ramping production in response to the global shortages.
Surgical masks are NOT just for prevention of corona virus...but other diseases, as well. Especially in a surgical or hospital situation.
This guy is explaining that the MAJORITY of our protective medical gear is MADE IN CHINA. (As is 80% of our presription medicines.)
He is the only MADE IN THE USA mask manufacturer...but, only three hospital chains purchase from his company, one of which is MD Anderson, in Houston, TX.
Too bad the masks were all made in China 13 days ago. :(
Trump’s going to meet with Modi next week. No reason not to shift some of the manufacturing from China to India.
With one million masks and the need to change through the day you might have enough for 200,000 people for one day. Who are the lucky ones?

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.
Surgical masks on the infected helps keep he virus from spreading.
But that is not the point.
The point is, whether surgical masks meet the standards or not, is that there are certain items that should never ever be controlled by overseas countries, friend or foe.
Pharmaceuticals, computer parts, any and all items that are required for national defense, rare earth minerals, etc.
If recent events have not made that clear to our government and those who vote for the government we have, we do not deserve to survive.
All dodos are not dodo birds.
A friend came back last week from a dr visit to MD Anderson. She said everyone had on a mask. Usually you see 10 people wearing masks.
