Another 99 people have tested positive for coronavirus onboard the stricken Princess Diamond cruise ship docked in Japan, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 454.
Meanwhile concern is growing over possible infections among passengers from another cruise liner that docked in Cambodia last week. On Sunday a traveller from the MS Westerdam was confirmed to have the virus in Malaysia, days after disembarking along with hundreds of other passengers.

Japanese public health experts advising the government defended the decision to isolate passengers and crew on the Diamond Princess.
Many people are testing positive on the ship, but that is because we are testing everyone onboard, regardless of their medical condition, said Shigeru Omi, the chief director of the Japan Community Health Care Organisation. And 70% of those testing positive are not showing any symptoms at all.
With fresh cases emerging daily, the Japanese government has advised citizens to avoid mass gatherings. On Monday it cancelled celebrations for the emperors birthday, while organisers of the Tokyo marathon cancelled next months mass participation race, in which 38,000 people were due to take part.

What a mess that ship situation has become. Reads like a movie script.
It must be spreading via the ventilation and sewer systems.
Floating petri dish. The US lawyer who refused evacuation is an idiot.
The luvvvvvvvv boat...
All you can eat dining service
It could be crew members spreading it around as they try to feed the passengers and distribute medications and such.
The travel industry is going to take a big hit this year. I’m considering taking a vacation in Costa Rica myself, I might just put it off for another year.
i am really curious as to who is going to pay for all the medical requirements. If you have travel insurance there is a cap that wont cover all of this...and there might be some kind of exemption for this
Will the cruise ship be responsible???
Will the govts be responsible that force you into quarantine?
And what about all the lost wages???
THis really is a nightmare for people
G- D.
Is it spreading throughout the ventilation system?
They might just be carriers?
Should they be let loose into the general public?- Tom
It is time to shut these ships down for the time being. There are so many ways this virus can spread. And it sounds like it might even get carried by the ventilation systems. If that is the case then it does no good to lock people in their rooms.
Airplanes will have the same problems. There may be no such thing as isolating passengers on an air plane. That batch that came back to the military base for Quarantine were transported on a commercial flight with unaffected passengers. The word is that they were isolated. The truth is that everyone on the plane may have been exposed due to the ventilation system. And I doubt that the normal passengers had a clue who was on the plane.
If you are referring to the Diamond Princess flights, I believe they came back on two special chartered 747 cargo converted to passenger, with special quarantine setup. No regular commercial passengers exposed. Somebody somewhere in in US Gov surprised me.
Our neighbors just returned from a month long cruise (Australia/New Zealand) ...going to avoid them for awhile
Couple of LONG LANCE torpedoes amidships should solve the problem
Its the same set up they use to move troops to the Middle East.
“It could be crew members spreading it around as they try to feed the passengers and distribute medications and such”.
I agree. And they’re probably wearing those rubber gloves like the ones used in the food industry which are worthless in preventing the spread of germs.
Who would take a cruise to China?
Knowing how other maladies spread on cruise ships who is surprised about this ship?
Given an incubation period where the vector is symptomless, who is surprised the passenger infection rate is increasing?
Who doesn't suspect that the passengers are infecting each other by some violating quarantine protocols?
Who doesn't think the whole ship load of passengers and crew will become infected because no one understands the infection mechanism fully?
How come none of the passengers have died yet given the narrative in the media about the lethality of the corona virus?
I wonder what summer cruise bookings look like.
Ok, still at least someone in US Gov could figure out how to repurpose.
