They were sent to a government-run quarantine centre and investigated by police, with two served summons in first such prosecutions

Contravening quarantine measures is a criminal offence punishable by a maximum fine of HK$25,000 (US$3,200) and six months’ jail

Four Hongkongers under home quarantine amid the coronavirus outbreak have been intercepted in separate cases by authorities while attempting to leave the city for mainland China or Macau.

The Department of Health said they were immediately sent to a quarantine facility and investigated by police.

Among them, two men, aged 41 and 37, were served summons on Monday, the first such prosecutions since the new compulsory quarantine measures kicked in on February 8. The pair were stopped at border check points at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge and Shenzhen Bay. For the remaining two individuals, the department and police continue to gather evidence for prosecution.

Hong Kong is getting kicked in the teeth time after time this year. They just got done being chased around by Chinese Police for trying to creating an uprising against their Communist Overlords. Now this virus gives ‘authorities’ yet another reason to push, prod and herd the people of Hong Kong around. I really think this virus was released on purpose to induce easier compliance.

Smoking levels and horrendous air quality are a good guess

An uber-liberal nurse who returned from Africa where she had been exposed to Ebola. She was supposed to be quarantined in her home. She told everybody no way was she going to be quarantined. Apparently, she went shopping and clubbing, but did not have Ebola.

As a nurse, her behavior was shocking. (To me, at least.) But even in the olden days when doctor’s put quarantine signs on houses, the wives and mothers still went shopping. (That was in the late fifties.)

My point is, when the safety of the entire country is at stake, quarantine should be enforced. There are people like that nurse everywhere. It only takes one. I understand the military has set up camps in several locations.

Well, first we don’t know whether that’s the case. It may SEEM that way simply because over 99% of the people in the geographic areas of infection happen to be Asian. If the outbreak had started in Utah it might seem that whites had a higher infection rate.

It's my guess that the current Chinese population CONTINUES to live in filth. Cleanliness costs and the Chinese seem to prefer to live in cheapo filth rather than expensive cleanliness.
The Chinese were responsible for the Bubonic Plague... Asian flu, Hong Kong flu, coronavirus. Do you notice a common theme? The Chinese have made their own cesspool of disease by continuing to eschew expensive CLEANLINESS.

The ball is in their court...er, I mean, cesspool.

"Is it known yet why the transmission and infection rates are higher among Asians currently ???"

The following article claims it targets ACE-2 receptors which asians have more of.

Asian risk identified

I'm not convinced that it's higher among asians for any reason other than it started in China. And by a strange coincidence Asians live in China and surrounding countries.

Even if that article is true, how does the odds of having higher ACE-2 receptors actually translate into transmission rates or illness severity?

And are ACE-2 inhibitors potential treatment options?

A sense of self-preservation militates against any quarantine.
Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.

They were fleeing to the mainland? That makes me think they were sent there to spread the virus.

It makes customers FEEL better. Staff washes their hands every hour so what about the customer they deliver food to at the 59 minute mark?

Notice customers putting their phones on the table.

People should be brown bagging their lunches or waiting to eat when they get home and after a shower and the laundry done.
