Where he will be massacred of course but splitting the Dem vote would likely reduce the Dems to a 3rd place finish, which would doom the party going forward. If an old socialist and a washed-up has-been in a pantsuit can pull more votes, your party is dead.

Bernie Sanders is no threat to the Democratic Party. If they stayed out of his way he would win the nomination, lose the election, and the Democratic elites could then say “I told you so” and take back control.

I doubt Mr. Lifson thinks the party is going to be utterly destroyed in a matter of months so much as he thinks the Dems are going to have to seriously start eating their own.

Hopefully, Bernie makes this charge at a debate and Bloomberg, after denying it, points out that if it weren’t for his money groups like Fair Fight Action might not be able to carry on their work and then asks Bernie what he ever did for such groups.

In his way, Michael Bloomberg can do more damage to the US political system than even George Soros, and with more malign intent. After all, the Soros conglomerate is interested only turning America socialist, while Bloomberg also wants to go after what we eat and drink as well.

If Bloomberg becomes the nominee, 25-30% of Democrats will not vote for a multibillionaire who bought the nomination. They will vote for 3rd parties or Trump. BTW will Bloomberg release his personal tax records?

The historic strength of the Democrat Party has been a coalition of county parties. The well known parties are in places like Cook County Illinois. But they existed across many cities and counties.
One of the reasons they lost big in 2010 and 2014 and 2016 was that they focused on the national scene to the neglect of the local scene. Their local party stucture has shrunk, often disappeared in the form of local officials, or at least local candidates. The party has ben replaced by ideologues focused only on the national scene in many places.
That is the Democrat Party problem now. No ogranization. No bench.
Be very careful in your expectations; Bloomberg, Steyer and the other billionaires gave hundreds of millions of dollars to the Dems which enabled them to take the House. They have the ability not only to pay to get elected President by buying votes and so-called “principled’ leftists but also by pouring money into congressional and Senate races that the Reps simply cannot match. I can’t stand the guy, but I don’t underestimate what his billions can do.

You’re not looking at the Supreme Court. The Wide Latina, Ruth Buzzard, old man Breyer....all of them could go in the next 5 years. Almost all of the Left’s biggest victories since the 60s have come from the Supreme Court. If Trump gets to replace even two of the Gang of Four (and let’s assume replace Clarence Thomas to keep that seat out of Leftist hands), then the Supreme Court will actually enforce the plain text of the constitution.
The vast majority of the gun grabbing laws swept away and Strict Scrutiny correctly applied as the standard under which any future gun grabbing laws must be viewed.
Nationwide injunctions by every lunatic leftist District court judge.....obliterated permanently.
No citing so-called “international law” or anything other than the US Constitution to decide cases....ie no end runs around the constitution as the Left has been trying to do.
Much stricter definition of a “Taking” requiring the government to pay fair market value and only to be able seize land for a legitimate public purpose (hospital, road, ports and airports, etc) rather than because some well connected corporation paid some politicians off. Requiring the government to pay fair market value for impairing the value of land with environmental regulations (currently they can impair up to 90% of the value without paying one red cent to the property owner).
The Donkeys will probably lose the Supreme Court for at least a generation if they can’t beat Trump. They almost have to throw the kitchen sink at him.
