Two crew members of the CSX train were initially trapped in a flaming locomotive
LOUISVILLE, Ky. A large rock slide on a rain-saturated mountain caused a fiery train derailment Thursday morning in eastern Kentucky that briefly trapped two crew members and caused a chemical leak into a river, authorities said.
Two crew members of the CSX train were initially trapped in a flaming locomotive along the rivers edge before climbing out and waiting for firefighters to rescue them by boat. They were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, officials said.
There weren't any other reports of injuries.
CSX said in a statement that the train derailed into the Big Sandy River about 7 a.m. because of a rock slide over the tracks. The derailment happened in the small Pike County community of Draffin, about 160 miles (255 kilometers) southeast of Lexington, Kentucky. Video showed a wooded area ablaze behind some homes shortly after the derailment occurred.
CSX said the train had 96 cars carrying ethanol and two cars loaded with rocks. Five rail cars derailed four ethanol tanks and one other car CSX said later on Twitter.
One locomotive and other cars caught fire.

Hmmm, did they say where on the river?
PETA is now screaming about the horror of drunk fish.
Pike County community of Draffin, about 160 miles (255 kilometers) southeast of Lexington, Kentucky.....................
Thanks, maybe I’ll drop by and ‘help out’ with the clean up.
If they climbed out of the locomotive, then they weren’t trapped.
They were trapped between the river and the flames................
Bring mason jars...........................
Yes they were trapped. They could stay on top of it and burn or they could jump in the water and die of hypothermia. It’s cold here.
Draffen Ky......... unknown to google mapa
If you read the story you'll see they were said to have been "initially trapped".
I got it wrong.
Graffin is South of Pikeville and North of Elkhorn City on US 460
Did they identify the correct river? The Big Sandy is the boundary between Kentucky and West Virginia; Draffin is not near that river. Draffin is a few miles from Elkhorn City, where the famous Clinchfield railroad has its northern terminus (goes through Kingsport, Tennessee) down to Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Maybe intentional misdirection.
Thousands of gallons in tank cars sitting idle on the tracks for days and days would make a nice target for moonshiners.............
Ratliff Bottom is in Elkhorn City. The river there is Russell Fork.
“would make a nice target for moonshiners..”
They put something it at the refinery to make it undrinkable.
No drinkable ethanol leaves the plant.

I learn something new here every day.
Re-distilling would make it drinkable again, and much cheaper that starting from scratch.............
Usually a small amount gasoline is mixed with fuel grade ethanol. It also makes it non-taxable unlike drinking ethanol
