This expert said that based on these very improbable structures he believes the virus did not occur naturally but was modified by genetic methods that only changed those structures that allowed it to cross species. This would only have occurred in a research lab for test purposes...

Testing for what? Is this a bioweapon site or not?

Testing vaccines, maybe?
Defense against bioweapons is of interest to governments, too, you know.

Sticky virus? Maybe it’s easier to scrub down with shorter hair.

One Patient now is in fair condition in San Diego
Feb 13
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two patients diagnosed with the potentially deadly novel coronavirus remain hospitalized at UC San Diego Medical Center Thursday, while physicians at the facility continue to monitor a third person who has shown symptoms linked to the virus.

Dr. Randy Taplitz, an expert on infectious diseases with UC San Diego Health, updated the media Thursday on the patients’ respective conditions. Taplitz said one of the coronavirus patients is in good condition, with the second patient listed in fair condition. She did not elaborate when asked by reporters to further define “fair condition.”

Both patients are in isolation at the hospital.

According to Taplitz, the third person showing possible signs of the virus remains under observation.

I can’t express what I feel for the medical staffs caring for these patients. I simply don’t have the words. As a nurse, I took care of many patients in isolation over the years and it requires tremendous focus, patience and being determined. I’m talking one or two at a time, now and then. They’re facing an endless swarm, day after night after day with a very tricky virus.

The moment by moment reality of caring for these patients in China is beyond my imagination. At the end of each day, grabbing a few hours of sleep and some food you know tomorrow will be another day without respite.

Every day I send prayers for the staffs caring for these patients. I hope there are millions of us doing the same.

If the new coronavirus 2019-nCoV (now also called COVID-19 virus) is anything like its family members, a new study suggests it could survive on inanimate objects for well over a week.

Tech-heavy daughter ordered a keyboard. Gets back an E-Mail today saying sorry, but nothing coming from China now.

Higher prices follow scarcity... Thank God President Trump started the process of bringing industry back to the United States as soon as he took office.

Yup.

I have (had) over 20 years direct experience with this sort of thing. A lot of stuff is sub-assemblies, too. So, you source the subassy. from, oh, say, Philippines. “Not China” - yay! Probably can’t even get it made in USA any more, at 2x the cost. But the mfgr. of the subassembly sourced a small but unique forged metal part from China. Chinese supplier can’t deliver - now you gotta go back thru 2 layers of supply, get tooling made, get samples, redo some or all the QC stuff again, maybe even need to redo lifetime and reliability testing - there’s usually a hitch or 2 there: It’s a freaking headache and meanwhile you are losing customers / sales. Big operations can multi-source - may or may not help if half of China is shut down, smaller mfgr’s often can’t afford it just due to the overhead involved in doing so.

The “supply chain” is a misnomer - it is often more like a “supply root system”.

Uuf.
Not sustainable.

This is actual nightmare stuff. If true, i’d not be surprised to see the chicoms soon detonate nuks in diseased areas rather than continuing to throw resources to the wind.

This is not a hopeful sign. For a certain number of patients they present with mild/moderate symptoms and gradually, over many days, begin to deteriorate. Going from “stable” or “good” condition to “fair” indicates that is happening with this patient.

This illness is long and resource intensive, whatever the outcome.

My guess is Frisco, Know the Way, City of Angel’s and the Home of the Padres may soon be on the menu. Very serious stuff here.

Wow, thanks. And it does bring up another issue for people to consider. Even IF companies develop workarounds to deal with their supply chains being disrupted, who says that quality won’t suffer? Particularly if they’re making substitutions with replacements that may just be a bit different than their standard parts.

So, at this point, if we see a big drop-off in product quality (of virtually everything)...we shouldn’t be surprised, given all the dislocation being caused by China.

Im in engineering. Have not seen much influnce of this stuff at work yet, but we are ITAR stuff. However, it will work its way to us, if only to make supply of domestic sourced materials tight.

Makes you wonder why hospitals still have plenty of stainless steel door knobs and push plates.

"Lab tests show that the metal kills off the deadly MRSA and C difficile superbugs. It also kills other dangerous germs, including the flu virus and the E coli food poisoning bug."

Very scary.

Has anyone seen a writeup of exactly what symptoms (and life cycle duration of each phase) one goes thru with this virus? I get the pnuemonia, but is there seizures and internal bleeding, or only respitory that kills ya?

All I know is I was exposed to probably every flu on the planet recently. Just came back from a trip through one of the ground zero areas in US. Currently in self quarantine. Actually feel healthier then ever. Why ? Cause I cleaned up my act. Now to hope I cleaned it up enough lol.
