Congressman Jesús G. Chuy Garcías (D-Ill.), New Way Forward Act, H.R. 5383, was referred to the Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship on Jan. 30. It is cosponsored by 43 of Garcias fellow Democrats, four of whom are on the subcommittee, including Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), the Vice Chair. The bill is supported by more than 145 advocacy groups.
It is also the most ill-advised immigration legislation I have ever seen.
Garcia claims his bill would correct racial and anti-immigrant injustices embedded in our immigration laws, but the bills main provisions would simply protect aliens who are subject to deportation because they have committed crimes.
Implementation would bury an already overwhelmed immigration court under an avalanche of new cases; it would allow dangerous criminals to remain in the United States, and it would use tax dollars to bring deported criminals back.
Would decriminalize migration
For starters and the likely headline feature Section VI of the bill would repeal 8 USC §1325(a) and 8 USC §1326 which make illegal entry into the United States a crime and makes it a crime to reenter the United States after being deported.
These laws are the main deterrents to illegal entries, and the bill fails to provide other means of deterrence.
According to a new TRAC report, illegal entry prosecutions fell recently. Resources have been devoted instead to prosecuting other types of federal offenses such as drug offenses, weapons, and white-collar crime.
While decriminalizing illegal entry should be no surprise in a Democratic immigration bill its been discussed in presidential debates after all its the other provisions in Garcias proposal that are jaw-dropping.
Would give old crimes a pass

Is there anything these morons can’t screw up entirely?....................
Democrat voters.
They are not screwing up..it’s intentional.
Just like the last 3 years have not been due to being stupid but a calculated attack.
Back in the dark ages i think they called it “evil”?
Lets hope Pres. Trump puts the full package out there or vetoes this abomination. This should be part of a Comprehensive Immigration Enforcement bill, missing since 1987 ONE TIME amnesty. The List of Comprehensive Immigration Enforcement, missing since 1987 goes like this -
1) southern barrier;
2) require eVerify to hire;
3) end all chain migration;
4) birthright per Minor v. Happersett (plural parents);
5) end work visas;
6) 10-year moratorium on all new applications for citizenship (40 years to allow workplace automation effects on downsizing population);
7) Set up an illegal aliens victim restitution fund.
Enactment of these provisions will motivate illegal aliens to SELF-deport, and remove colonizadors from our welfare rolls.
Prosecute landlords and employers who rent to and hire illegals
Look at the bright side -- these dimbulbs have no idea that they're being used as a billboard announcement because:
Here comes "Jesus" with his "New Way Forward Act"...
This abomination will pass the house but would be DOA in Senate
If this pos could get some media coverage maybe some sane dems in the house would not vote for it
I cant imagine any of those 20-some Dem reps who flipped red districts in 2018 would really want to have to vote for this. This plus their vote for impeachment would make for some fine campaign commercials for their opponents come November.
bkmk
You make a good point. I wonder if Pelosi will allow the bill to get to the floor before Nov.
Any GOP opponent against them should make sure to bring this bill up to voters
