I guess what they should have said is that is not a known side effect.

Tylenol does not affect receptors that would cause most people to fall asleep. It doesn’t work like an antihistamine or opioid.

I’ve never heard of that reaction. I DO know that a couple of Extra strength Tylenol with some ibuprofen and it killed some root canal pain.

If you listen carefully you will hear that they are hoping to “contain” this.
We have 15 today. 13 yesterday. 11 on Monday.

They are probably not going to keep it down.

Is there a page that shows something different than what is on the widely referred to Johns Hopkins page? On that page, they show for Hubei 48,206 confirmed cases, 1,310 deaths, just under 3% rather than 30%.

That is the page I am using.

The mortality rate calculation is ‘what is the final resolution of all those who have been infected’, or ‘what is the final resolution of those who have been admitted to the hospital”, or some other specified criteria. It is not the number who have died so far divided by an exponentially increasing number of infected. Thus (with the reporting caveats) while the epidemic is ongoing, the number is not deaths/infected, but rather deaths/resolved case.

If you were to replace “Coronavirus” with “Ricin”, and inject 100 people with a dose which would kill 100% in a week, then every day double the number of people you give the injection, after one week you would have a fatality/injection ratio of 0.8% (100/12,700), for a 100% fatal toxin.

Without information subdivided by cohort, the closest you can get is dead/(dead + recovered), which is 1310/(1310 + 3459)=27.47%, which I rounded to 30% as the number has bounced up and down around 30% for several days.

I’m ordering extra losartan from overseas. Both for BP purposes and lung protection in case normal pharmacy supply channels go dry.

An anti microbial that kills everything—like “Tide mixed with orange juice?”

Apparently the Proctor & Gamble research unit mixed strong detergents with protein dissolving action with citric acid; and, the concoction destroyed all bacterium, fungi, and virus. The research was licensed to developers of commercial products for hospital and rest home use. The associated products claim a minimal three hour persistence of action on surfaces.

Sounds like tonight's report will be another doozy.

"Also a hot plate. Many ovens/stoves here are made with parts from China. If our stove goes out in, say, May...I’d like to be able to actually cook still :) Also pack of sponges and extra dish soap, just in case dishwasher does the same."

If you are outdoor types, camping stoves are great as a backup cooking resource. Many of us have camping and backpacking gear in our attics and basements that might not immediately come to mind. As long as you have power, you can also do a lot with a microwave oven. We've stocked up on some extras, but are trying not to buy too many things that we won't otherwise eat or otherwise consume.

I’ve always heard, ‘eat what you store, store what you eat’.

Sounds like good advice to me. Hubby and I have done extended fasting before too so we could extend a weeks worth of food for a month IF we had to.

Hubby has a campstove he uses at the deer camp we could use if there were an extended power outage. I don’t think it will come to that.

This might be more than one horseman for China...

If the farmers can’t get the seeds/fertilizer/chemicals to plant their crops it will get dodgy there fast.

Yes, agreed. I have a small farm, small enough to prep for the animals for several months. Large operations would really struggle.

Exactly so. I can bake bread and we have rice and pasta on hand. I don't stock flaked potatoes because they will only be consumed after the last shelf has been emptied and we're down to eating the crabgrass in the back lawn. Nobody likes them.

We are always ready for ice storms or tropical storms, so this is more like an extension of what we normally do.

If you want to prepare/stock up, here is a ton of information at flutrackers. They put together this great resource back when bird flu was circulating, but it is helpful for now: https://flutrackers.com/forum/forum/personal-family-professional-emergency-preparedness
