These things are garbage as they are now. The Saudis bought better versions than what the Navy specced, they can’t be economically reconfigured (despite the “modular mission system”) to be more viable, they suck at seakeeping, they’re not reliable...
Most of this is due to massive mission creep and the Obama era Navy demanding the LCS be used to replace frigates.
The FFG-X can’t get here fast enough.
Reconfigure them and put them on permanent standby to provide power for the serial disaster that is Puerto Rico. Or, as prison ships and movable brigs.
(”Opt to spend your time in the brig in the Sunny Caribbean at Guantanamo Cuba! Experience the onboard in the relaxed atmosphere with 3 square meals and hospital care, surrounded by beautiful prison island Cuba, and a view across the strait to dark and exotic Haiti!”)
My take on those things when I saw the first graphics and some specs like weight and thickness of plate was that they would never survive combat. I believe the Navy has made the same assessment. The LitComs were a political fleet, I think, designed to be coastal defense craft for when we were to phase out our force projection capabilities.
