These things are garbage as they are now. The Saudis bought better versions than what the Navy specced, they can’t be economically reconfigured (despite the “modular mission system”) to be more viable, they suck at seakeeping, they’re not reliable...

Most of this is due to massive mission creep and the Obama era Navy demanding the LCS be used to replace frigates.

The FFG-X can’t get here fast enough.

How a corrupt globalist country wanting to become an Asian land power decides to dismantle the true source of it's national security - it's deepwater blue ocean Navy.

Yeah blame Carter and Obama, but blame Bush and the neocons.

Hint: no one wants to be an asian landpower. It's forced on Russia because of dint of geography. We can choose and GWB and the neocons chose poorly.

Big Flaws in the Boat. The Navy doesn't like to talk about.

Using one for a SINKEX drill would be quite interesting as both types' survivability has long been in question, especially due to the widespread use of aluminum in their construction and their overall lower design standards than their more hardy dock mates. Seeing what real weaponry does to either of the designs could be beneficial

A very expensive experiment. There must be a balance between innovation and real world function.

No real surprise. These were always glorified coast guard vessels shoehorned into an ocean-going role. They make sense for Sweden. Maybe.

...serving as a training and test force...

Well, in that regard they were a success. If the intent was to learn from them then we did. We learned we don't want to build ships like that. An expensive lesson to be sure. The real question is, have we learned that lesson now? Or are we going to continue to build out the rest of the planned fleet? I would think maybe they should apply those $$$ toward getting the next/replacement class of ship into service sooner rather than later and not build any more.

the oldest of the vessels was commissioned just 12 years ago

And how many billions of dollars were spent on the R&D for these things, along with the actual construction and operating costs, to say nothing of the cost to decommission these failed ships? Who will be held responsible for this monumental screw-up and this colossal waste of taxpayer money? Aside from the taxpayer, who always ends up being held responsible for the idiotic things the idiots in our government and military do.

There are two designs of the “Littoral” ships and two shipyards are building them. The design with a conventional hull shape is made up in Manitowoc Wisconsin and the design with a catamaran type hull is built near Mobile Alabama. Both designs have had a number of problems, including bad propulsion, poor sea keeping in heavy seas and the inability to have a quick change via modular add-ons. We in Wisconsin will miss the jobs if building these stops.
