American Evacuated From Wuhan Is 13th Case In US
Epoch Times ^ | 11 Feb 2020 | Zachary Stieber

An American who was among a group that had been flown out of Wuhan, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in China, by the U.S. government became the first evacuee to test positive for the coronavirus, health officials said.

The patient had arrived at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego last week on one of the State Department flights that ferried Americans from Wuhan. The person was released from a hospital in San Diego to return to federal quarantine after initial tests indicated they weren’t infected, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The patient showed symptoms of the virus but was released back to the base on Feb. 9. Additional testing showed the patient, in fact, was infected—bringing the number of confirmed cases in the United States to 13, CDC said. The patient has returned to the hospital.

“This morning, CDC officials advised San Diego Public Health that further testing revealed that one of the four patients tested positive for [novel coronavirus],” the University of California, San Diego, said in a statement on Feb. 10. “The confirmed positive patient was returned to UC San Diego Health for observation and isolation until cleared by the CDC for release.”

Another evacuee was sent to the hospital. Tests on that patient were pending.

Feel better now?

Incubation period possibly 24 days now.

A friend of ours just returned to the US from China by staying in Thailand for 14 days - and was allowed to return home directly. The best part is that they own a restaurant. She is self- isolating at home, but her family is occupying the same home, but in different rooms.

Then they go run their restaurant each day......

Assuming she was tested, this shouldn’t really be a problem. If she was in Thailand for 14 days, she should be symptomatic if she was infected.

WHO said the 24 day case was an outlier that possibly reflected a second exposure.

On the restaurant. 14 days in Thailand really reduces the odds. that they have it. Thailand has 33 cases now, but that’s nothing compared to China.

On the American recently diagnosed. The fact that he had symptoms but tested negatively, tells me that either the tests can generate false negatives, or you can be sick and have symptoms but not yet shedding virus in the locations they check. That’s not good news.

Good work all, now the entire USMC may be infected.

On the other hand, 3 of the U.S. patients have “recovered” status. So the U.S. currently has 10 confirmed cases. That is fewer than last week! :)

One patient in England infected 11 others, so “super spreaders” exist, just like with SARS.

Super spreaders are asymptomatic.

RE: American Evacuated From Wuhan Is 13th Case In US

I’m very interested in finding out the ethnicity of this “American”.

Many people have been speculating that this virus was bio-engineered to target ethnic Han Chinese. If so, then it should filter out people of other races.

But that’s just rumors and speculation of course.

I haven’t found any charts or data that breaks down infections by ethnicity at all.

Here in the US we have many advantages on this disease: lower population density, better hand washing, infinitely better food sanitation, and HOPEFULLY better information flow and governmental transparency.

There are too many unknown variables to this possible pandemic.

Anyone who has spent time in China knows that disposable paper towels or napkins are “bring your own” and are not provided free of charge anywhere. Yes, including bathrooms.

That’s good news.

Someone posted an article on Facebook that this sickness will cause a housing crash here in the USA. I admit I didn’t read the article as it sounded like fear-mongering.

No one should have been allowed in from China or SEA once this virus was known. We were better to send our doctors over there than to bring the plague into our own country. Aircraft from there should have been allowed to land only to refuel and get sent back to their point of origin without anyone getting off the planes. The compassionate way to deal with a plague is the suicidal way. Add the deaths of many for the compassion showed to a few.
