TSA pre-check was not included in the DHS ban.

I would argue that this Trump effort is a precursor, a shot across the bows, a warning

When the sanctuary city boom is actually lowered, they can’t complain about no warning

When the boom is lowered, they are effectively out of the business of being a city

Global Entry is not a new program. Pretty much anybody that would want it would already has it.

It expires after a few years. Blocking enrollment would presumably prevent a renewal.

I have a family member in NY who has been trying to renew. She turned in her application last May, and it has been pending all this time. Now it’s a no go. She has to travel internationally for her job about every other month or so, and sometimes only has a week or two notice.

Then she already has a passport. Is that not a sufficient substitute??

The passport is necessary, yes, absolutely, but when she has used the Global Entry in the past few years, getting through customs has helped her process through more quickly. I don’t know know if there are different lines for GE, but I think there are fewer forms. She used to have to travel with heavy computer equipment many times, but I’m not sure if her current role still requires that much any more. So the GE is a convenience, but not earth shattering.
