I kinda like this quote: American politics increasingly feels like a novel whose events are retold by two unreliable narrators, Trump being one and the media being the other. The truth, or something close it, is in there somewhere between the two of them.
However, when the media starts with a baseline lie one cannot beat them without playing their game.

Now I am not about to jump into the fray by arguing that Trump and those in his orbit dont often have a strained relationship with the truth.Hey Mark, say hi to Peggy Noonan next time you see her at your favorite watering hole.

The Media has to earn our trust by truthful reporting, no amount of slogans or advertising can replace that.

No truth will come from the so called media when they are comprised of 95% Leftwing activists.

“Maybe you hate The New York Times, but youre not getting extensive coverage about the dangers of global pandemics from TrumpTruth2020.com. “
But is the New York Times coverage about the dangers of global pandemics true, accurate and trustworthy?

The MSM has lost me, permanently. It has been years, probably closer to a couple of decades, since I have believed anything they've spewed. I've determined they cannot regain my trust.
I had parents and aunts and uncles growing up that never trusted the Japanese, never had anything good to say about them. (and to a lesser extent the Germans) They had lived through WWII, they had lost friends and relatives in the war. They would never again trust the Japanese. Never.
I will admit as a kid growing up I recognized this, but didn't really understand it. Now I do. I have developed the same distrust and loathing towards leftists. Professionally I "grew up" a cold-warrior. Communism and socialism were the great evils, the fundamental enemy. Today, the MSM is nothing but a cheerleader, a propaganda arm for the leftists, socialists, and fascists of every stripe looking to destroy America. Not unlike the Japanese trying to expand their influence and power, willing to kill to do it. I understand my older relatives now. I also understand that there is absolutely nothing the MSM could do, no reversal of course, no sudden shift to actually doing their jobs in a fair and balanced way, nothing they can do that will ever change that. There is no integrity there, and no trust on my part. Never will be.

I have a friend whose daughter is a very peripheral reporter for CNN. This friend is constantly touting her daughter and CNN as REAL NEWS. I just dont listen anymore.

It is a very good article.
It fails when it attempts to save the New York Times.
We are returning to a time of openly partisan media.
That was how it was at the beginning of the Republic.
It was what the First Amendment was designed for.

Wow, can you imagine a situation where every time you turned on the news or saw a headline on the internet you had to reflexively question what you read? Not hard to imagine at all....Happens every time I tune to CNN or MSNBC.

During my time in Southeast Asia, I realized that every time the media reported an event I knew something about, they got it wrong. My experience since then has been the same. I don't trust anything the news media report. They probably get the Day of the week right, and maybe yesterday's snowstorm, but I doubt just about everything else.

“At one point, during a riff on abortion, Trump casually asserted that the governor of Virginia executed a baby”
I think I’ve watched nearly every Trump rally and don’t remember him ever saying that.
Has anyone else?

It was that, in this state of heightened suspicion, truth itselfabout Ukraine, impeachment, or anything elsefelt more and more difficult to locate. With each swipe, the notion of observable reality drifted further out of reach. Most if not all of today's news; one lies and all the rest swear to it.

Coppins article, like many that have come before it, seems to basically assume that the media consensus that reflects the worldview of a largely secular, center-left coastal overclass, a.k.a. subscribers to The Atlantic, is more or less the truth.

At one point, during a riff on abortion, Trump casually asserted that the governor of Virginia executed a babyprompting a woman in the crowd to scream, Murderer!
This incendiary fabrication didnt seem to register with my companions in the press pen, [ . . . ]that there were certainly different ways to interpret his comments but that not even the most ardent anti-abortion activist thought the governor of Virginia had personally executed a baby.;
By that reasoning, neither Herod, Capone nor Hitler would be "murders" because they didn't directly participate except through order or permission.
