It is no secret that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), despite being a signatory to the Biological Weapons Convention, regards the development of bioweapons as a key part of achieving military dominance. The vice-president of China’s Academy of Military Medical Sciences, He Fuchu, said in 2015 that biomaterials were the new “strategic commanding heights” of warfare. People’s Liberation Army (PLA) general Zhang Shibo went even further in his 2017 book, “War’s New High Land,” claiming that “modern biotechnology development is gradually showing strong signs characteristic of an offensive capability,” including the potential for “specific ethnic genetic attacks.”
To be perfectly clear, what General Zhang is talking about are bioweapons that kill other races, but for which people who look like him have a natural or acquired immunity. Those who might counter that one wild-eyed general, who does not necessarily speak for the communist leadership, should bear in mind that Zhang was a full member of the 18th Central Committee (2012–2017) and the former president of the National Defense University.

According to Peter Navarro and Maria Bartiromo, when asked yesterday if the virus came from the Wuhan lab, the Chinese ambassador to the US refused to deny this. Supposedly on one of the Sunday shows.
No more heavy-handed than how they got there in the first place.
True, but that sort of imbalance is your army. Why decimate it?

I worry about our President and his team that were working the China phase 1 deal. I pray there were not exposed. All appear in good health so far...but yes, I worry.

Maybe the unrest in Hong Kong isn’t really limited to Hong Kong? No idea, but it struck me that the virus purportedly affects Asian males disproportionately.
Supposedly the really good medical care is being reserved for their military personnel.
We’ll see, though, when their economy opens up again.
One of the most frustrating things is that the vast majority of “news” reports do not mention the race or ethnicity of confirmed death cases, probably due to PC, fueling the theory that only people of East Asian origin will die from this. I want to see better non-PC reports.
Another point, “news” media focus on suspected and confirmed cases while not reporting the number of high negative test results. There have been a few reports published that a very high number of people tested are negative! Factual reporting must include the number of people confirmed AND also include the number of negative results.

The Soviet Union falls and China/India nuke the US. Towards the end of the book, an engineered virus China was developing got loose in China. American scientists had discovered this project and had developed a vaccine that they put into chocolate rations for their troops and eventually everyone on our side.
The conflict more or less wound down at this point as Chinese soldiers began infecting each other and their citizens with a horrid bioweapon that would basically leave the infected blind as their eyes more or less literally melted out of their sockets.
I think that's how it went, but I read this several decades ago and may even be confusing it with other books.

That doesn’t make any sense. The SARS coronavirus IS already much more lethal. A bioweapons engineer would start with the most lethal virus and work to make it more lethal and contagious.
One effective battle strategy is to create a large number of injured to consume an opponents resources.
As an evil government that has admitted to working on such bioweapons, I could see it refining viruses for each major race: caucasians to beat North America and Europe, African to kick back the booming native populations in the Africa they’ve been investing in so heavily, and Asian, either to off their own elderly in particular, or other ethnicities for overtaking neighboring Asian countries.

In the era of nuclear weapons, 'plausible deniability' becomes extremely important - if it becomes known that you've attacked another country, you've placed the existence of your own country at risk. Biological weapons targeting certain ethnic or racial groups may therefore become attractive to some governments (including the Chinese Communists), because unlike nuclear weapons, fatal diseases are not necessarily human-engineered, nor is the source of such diseases as easy to determine as a massive nuclear attack.
A bio-weapon attack, as typically envisioned, would be preceded by the development of a single biological agent, followed by mass immunization of the attacker's own military & populace. Such immunization efforts are obviously subject to discovery by the target country; and the sudden appearance of an agent that affects a specific ethnic group might prompt suspicions as well.
Theoretically, a different approach might entail fewer risks. The attacker might develop two related agents, rather than one, via genetic engineering or a long-term program evaluating natural mutations/variations. The release of the less-fatal strain of the agent in the attacker's own homeland might provide some immunity to the more-lethal variant, and therefore substitute for a traditional immunization program. More importantly, the initial outbreak in the attacker's homeland (with associated death toll) would provide plausible deniability, when the more-letal 'mutation' (i.e., second agent) subsequently infected the populace of the target nation. The attacker might even offer "assistance" to the target, based on their experience 'fighting' the initial outbreak...
If you were attempting to make an ethnic-specific plague, you would start with a mild virus and work out the targeting genes in test versions. Then you would enhance the lethal potential with additional modifications to make the finished version.
2019-nCoV looks to me like an early research variant that got out of control due to a lab accident.
The swiftness and unconcealed severity of the Chinese Government reaction is the big "tell" here. You do not shut down the core of your national economy, quarantine 75 million people, and isolate the capitol city for a new seasonal flu that causes a couple hundred deaths.
I disagree.
I have seen no evidence that the Wuhan coronavirus was bioengineered to target a specific race or ethnic group. The vast majority of victims are Chinese. Makes no sense for the Chinese to bioengineer a viral weapon that also kills their own.
