Testing aboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan has found 60 more confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, domestic broadcaster TBS TV said via Twitter.
That brings total cases on the ship docked in Yokohama, south of Tokyo, to 130, according to TBS. The liner was placed on a two-week quarantine on arriving at Yokohama on Feb. 3.

Seems like the Japanese are treating the ship as isolation... which is very unfortunate for the as-yet uninfected on board.
Just d-mn
“So long, Mama, I’m stuck at Yokohama”
That's the far Eastern herd mentality that the individual must always be subordinate to the needs of the group.
Remember, all cultures are equal. /s
That ship is a giant inoculum poised to grossly infect Japan with the coronavirus. If that happens it will be a disaster for the people Japan. It will also be an economic catastrophe which will precipitate a worldwide recession.
Very much doubt the Japanese authorities will allow those passengers to disembark.
Almost doubled in one day. Must be circulating in the air system. If so, there will be a lot more. Need to get them off the ship into isolation.
Might be too late. It’s airborne through the air duct system. they say.
Reports of passenger suicides in... 3... 2... 1...
How many people are on that ship in total?
How is the ship disposing of the infected body waste?
It's beginning to sound like a Chinese quarantine.Bring Out Your Dead
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.
1100 Crew, so 2600 Passengers.
The Post says 3,700 total (crew and passengers).
And Beijing is now on lockdown.
“If a person refuses to accept hospital quarantine, home quarantine, and other epidemic prevention measures, the public security organ shall severely punish those who commit acts against the administration of public security, according to the law.”
Two weeks was picked as the quarantine time because that's supposed to be the maximum amount of time between exposure and symptoms appearing if the exposed person has caught it. But since more and more people are catching it, that quarantine should be expanded to two weeks after the last case seen.
The two weeks might be different if they are doing regular testing on everyone to see if they have the disease instead of relying on symptom appearance.
But the rest of the passengers better not be getting off the boat in one more week. I doubt they are keeping total isolation, including individualized HVAC, to prevent passengers from infecting each other.
Japan turned down a second cruise ship with sick passengers. They headed south looking for a port that would take them.
They do reset the quarantine clock with each new infection. As of today, they have to sweat it out for another 14 days, and on and on that goes. Depressing....
Voyage of the damned?
