President Trump called on local law enforcement in New York City and statewide politicians to do more to defend their police officers following two back-to-back shootings that injured officers over the weekend.
"I grew up in New York City and, over many years, got to watch how GREAT NYC’s 'Finest' are," Trump said in a tweet Sunday. "Now, because of weak leadership at Governor & Mayor, stand away (water thrown at them) regulations, and lack of support, our wonderful NYC police are under assault. Stop this now!"
Police said a man walked into the NYPD's 41st precinct early Sunday morning and opened fire on officers there, injuring one. Authorities believe the suspect could be responsible for or connected to a separate incident Saturday night, in which two other officers were attacked in their patrol vehicle in the Bronx.
The Saturday night attack was described as "an attempted assassination."

I guarantee you in the next 48 hours, either Cuomo or DiBlasio will respond and say that Trump isn’t a New Yorker anymore and should mind his own business in FL.
Somebody should dress those two up in police uniforms and make them stand on a corner in the Bronx for a few days and see how they like it.

Many, many years ago I worked security for a major university. Well, one day a guy with a pistol walks into the campus police station and robs the desk sergeant of his gun. Most everyone in the station was armed. Yet the guy got away.
Such is the power of the element of surprise.

Seriously, since about the 1950s officers have been curtailed by rules that favor the criminals and endanger their own lives. Obvious one is Miranda reading of rights. But also "was there an alternative to drawing officer's weapon?" "Was lethal force the best choice?" They have twelve seconds to assess and to act. Lawyers have years of billable hours of lawsuits.
