Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), a 2020 White House hopeful, on Sunday dismissed concerns that his status as a self-proclaimed democratic socialist would be a liability in a general election and said President Trump’s description of his ideology as “communist” was inaccurate.
“Obviously I am not a communist,” Sanders told host Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday” in response to a clip of Trump using the designation in a Fox News interview, adding that Trump “maybe doesn’t know the difference.”
Sanders also called Trump a “pathological liar” for claiming Sanders was “married in Moscow.”
Wallace continued to press Sanders on how he would address criticisms that agenda items such as the Green New Deal, Medicare for All and forgiveness of college debt are both overly radical and prohibitively expensive.
“In many respects, we are a socialist society today,” Sanders responded, noting the tax breaks and subsidies Trump received from the government as a businessman.
“The difference between my socialism and Trump’s socialism is I believe the government should help working families, not billionaires,” he added.
Addressing his specific proposals, Sanders said both the price tags and the overhaul of the status quo were preferable to the alternative.
“If we leave the [health care] status quo alone, in the next 10 years we’re going to be spending $50 trillion,” he said. “Medicare for All will cost the average American less than the $12,000 a year they are paying the insurance companies.”

Substituting other nomenclatures for the word “communist” is a deception.

The difference between a socialist and a communist is that the communist knows what he’s doing.
President Trump seems firmly convinced that he can and will do socialism better, much better, than the Democrats. Do you recall Trump’s reaction to the court opinion out of Texas which concluded that Obamacare’s “mandate” was unconstitutional? Sen. Sanders is wrong on virtually everything, but he’s right in noting that we’re already immersed in governmental socialism here.
I could swear there were old Commie statements by the youngish (still ugly) Bernie.
I remember him in the campaign against Hillary saying “People say should they call me a Socialist but what I am is simple. I’m a Democrat.” Also called self “Independent” but caucuses with Dems.
He should just admit:
“I Bernie Sanders will say anything or tell any lie before I get into power to rule you as a Communist elitist.”
The only differences between a socialist and a communist are: (a) market branding and (b) how defenseless the population is against the government.
Not a chance in hell she was. Ayn Rand, while being an atheist, was a VERY capitalist-minded person.
True communism relies on the people to share and support each other. It doesn’t have a formal government. Unless the world adopts it, it will never work.
Socialism has a government function that “provides” for the people.
They both are unworkable, as long as people desire things for their children.
The goal of socialism is communism.

He honeymooned there. A distinction without a difference.
Now Sanders has to go out there and deny he’s a communist, but he’s going to have to explain the “differences” between the socialist policies he openly supports and those of communism. Should be a ton of fun to hear that old commie curmudgeon explain that away.

At the bottom of the article, there is a section on differences between communism and democrat socialism.
By definition, Putin could be considered a democrat socialist.
Also, without a doubt, Hugo Chavez was, and Nicolás Maduro is, a democrat socialist.
By definition, a communist will overthrow the government by revolution to implement socialism...an act of treason. This is why Bernie, and closet communists, will not label themselves as "communists".

Good points. I wonder what he did before donning a yarmulke for the public outdoor menorah lighting on December 19th that could in any way be considered a Jewish observance? If setting up a phony photo-op is going to impress Jews to vote for him then shame on them.
I'm sure when the cameras are off he derisively scorns our Torah. A cultural Jew like a nightclub comic or a Hollywood producer.
