Everything about the world inhabited by the protagonist Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) is as depressing as humanly possible.

"Depressing as humanly possible" is a good description of postmodern "art" in general, isn't it? No goodness, no light, no beauty. In fact, light and beauty are mocked. This is what postmodernists, deconstructionists, and Leftists have done to us.

Although it is a very ugly movie, I took away some valuable messages from Joker: Antifa starts at home - the family unit, not society. Joker told in it’s story that Arthur’s problems began with an abusive, dysfunctional family, not initially from an apathetic society. Society is made of family units and follows familial madness. Short sighted young people like to blame the effect and make excuses for the cause. As JK Rowling said, there is an expiration date on blaming your parents. Yes, misery gets visited upon you, but at some point you choose misery and to visit it upon others paying it forward. Antifa, Occupy Wall Street, Islamic Jihad, rioting against conservatives and the successful is a choice of blame and misery. In that climactic moment as the camera zooms out from all the tv screens one person can be heard saying, “To those who have been ignored by the system,” almost word for word from Trump’s inauguration speech, “you will be forgotten no longer.”

You’re comparing the joker to Greek myth where the bad guys are portrayed as bad guys?

No

Harry Potter is a warlock who hates his Christian family for being Christian.

He has no adherence to true goodness.

And the reason those good films replay is because they have an audience. It’s naive to think otherwise.

.....”Just because it doesn’t fit one’s self-imaged view of who should play a part, or how they should play it, or whether the hero wins in 90 minutes really doesn’t matter”.......

Sure it does....I’ve turned lousey acting and bad scripts off plenty of times within 15 minutes of watching with no regrets... But because there were so many ‘must watch’ reviews, interviews, and a push of reveiws about Joker I kept waiting, and waiting, and waiting, to see what the fuss was on why this was suppose to be such a great movie....it wasn’t.

We don’t know that this Joker is that Joker. This one is apparently the prior Joker. We don’t know exactly what that means in the universe this story is set in. Is that the father of the other Joker? Is that the inspirational character that the other Joker decides to emulate 20 years later? Remember that in the comic world there are similar characters with the same names living in different universes following different timelines.

Oh my gosh....if you took that much from watching a movie about a derranged fictitious cartoon character then Hollywood's efforts to drive social engineering is working.

I’m comparing villainous main characters. They have a LONG history in Western civilization. You said they didn’t. You’re wrong.

Oh wow, and now you went to full on LYING. Harry Potter is NOT a warlock (warlock means traitor, he is a wizard), he doesn’t hate his family, in spite of the fact that they are vile people who abused and neglected him and clearly deserve to be hated. He actually feels sympathy for them and acts to protect them. There’s nothing in the books at all that says his aunt and uncle are Christian, and any enmity he has for them has nothing to do with religion. He sacrifices is own life to save others, if that ain’t adherence to true good then there’s no such thing.

No, the reason those films get replayed is because you can buy the rights to the 20 year old catalog (the WHOLE catalog) for less than you can buy the rights to 1 movie made in the last year. They need an audience of hardly anybody to be profitable for the network.

Face it, you’re wrong across the board.

Hell is the place where all those who denied him will be without him. So hell is a bunch of souls who will know Gods love was real now without his spirit and love. What a horrible and frightening thought. Anger, sorrow, remorse, hate ... in all those souls together with no love, peace, or Gods Grace.

And now you’re reduced to begging for the last word. Hey you know one of those old movies that gets showed a lot: Godfather. You know, villain main character. So you remain WRONG across the board.

The Godfather like some of the Greek myths is a tragedy. They portray villains as bad characters. Not as protagonists

It’s not a tragedy until the 3rd movie. And everybody hates that one. And Michael Corleone is very much the protagonist. And a murderous thug. You’re weaseling now, trying to find nonprotagonist protagonists, and doing it poorly. Just admit you’re full of crap. It’s faster, easier, and I’ll actually respect you.

It did display energy efficient lighting management of interior lighting.(/not) Achieved that dank, dour, dimly lit effect without flickering fluorescent tubes.

The Bad: Rip off of both King of Comedy and Taxi Driver

The Good: Better than every other comic book movie, but that’s setting a low bar.

I liked Joker but I do think this analysis makes a fair point.

IMO Pheonix should get best actor but Once Upon A Time in Hollywood should get best film. Its heart is in the right place and it gets the morality right. Plus the camera loves that glorious butternut yellow Cadillac.
