People who are quarantined aboard the Diamond Princess in Japan have been wondering how long their isolation would last. On Friday, a health official gave an answer they might not like: the quarantine will be extended every time a new case of the Wuhan coronavirus is confirmed on the ship.

Dang . This could take months.
Those poor people!
Wow.
That is the right answer.
I freeped that very thing a couple of days ago. They have to reset the clock every time a new case is found, if there is any chance at all that it has spread.
Does that go for the American repatriates too?
People...have been wondering how long their isolation would last...
Till there’s no one left?
I guess they’re getting food and medicine and stuff delivered??
Can’t they test people and then evacuate those who test negative?
Or is the test not 100 percent?
“Did I ever tell you about the year I lived on a cruise ship during the great Wuhan Coronavirus pandemic?”
“I freeped that very thing a couple of days ago. “
Yep. I remember reading your posting. When I saw this article, I decided to share.
Im sure Halmark will do a movie about it
This could go on for years as they say you can catch it again. They better change their mailing address.
“Only about a hundred times, grandpa”
Right Answer!
Hallmark movie: “A very Quarantine Wedding”
Clock just restarted. A woman aboard the ship from Forest Grove, Oregon just tested positive according to this morning’s news. Her husband staying in the room with her is still negative.
Aside from that, are they enjoying their cruise at the dock?
If that happens... it would make me wonder about on-ship hygiene: ventilation system, food prep.
I can see some of the shipboard dialogue going like this:
I told you we should have paid a little extra for a balcony cabin, but no you opted for an inside cabin, to save a little money.
At least with a balcony we could look outside and have some fresh air.
Im starting to feel like we are in solitary confinement. -Tom
Wow, that is nuts.
It should go for the American repatriates. I don’t know if they will do that in the US or not.
If they don’t have them isolated in rooms that are negative pressure so it can’t spread through the air. Then every time they find a new case, they have to assume everyone else might have just gotten exposed.
I watched an infuriating interview with someone from the NIH. They were worried about Civil rights of those quarantined. And complaining that forced quarantines might cause people to lie about where they had been. Whereas most people would comply with voluntary quarantines.
Well most people is not sufficient, so voluntary doesn’t cut it. They couldn’t even make that happen for 72 hours at the March AFB. They couldn’t make it happen with Ebola.
It only takes one Coronavirus Charlie to start an epidemic.
