SANTA FE A slim majority of adults in New Mexico support a red flag law that would allow for the temporary removal of firearms from individuals deemed a threat to themselves or others, according to a Journal Poll.
The telephone survey found that 52% of adults support the law and 37% are opposed.
The rest had mixed feelings, said it depends or wouldnt say.
The poll showed strikingly different support levels among men and women and by party affiliation.
Support for the firearms proposal was 63% among women and 64% among Democrats.
Just 41% of men and 30% of Republicans supported the bill.
We found that gender was a very large predictor of peoples support levels for the red flag laws, said Brian Sanderoff of Research & Polling Inc., which conducted the survey.
The Journal Poll also shows substantial geographic variation with support highest in the Albuquerque area and north-central New Mexico, including Santa Fe.
Attitudes were more divided on the east side of the state and in the northwest, where more adults opposed the bill than supported it.
The Albuquerque and Santa Fe areas are strongly behind it, Sanderoff said. The two rural, conservative areas are slightly against it, and the Las Cruces area is somewhere in between.
Add it all up, he said, and a slim majority of adults favor the legislation.

“Temporary”
Sure.
New Mexico! The same state with an alcohol problem?
No doubt it was correctly explained to the callees. Guessing they didn’t call you CedarDave? Or TijerasSlim.
Was this a phone call poll?
How many of those of us, who believe in the 2nd amendment would respond to a poll like this?
We don’t tell anyone calling on a phone, that we own guns!
So... women democrats in Albuquerque and Santa Fe are mostly the ones pushing it.
The New Mexico Legislature is considering a bill known as a Red Flag Law. This law will allow enforcement officers to temporarily remove guns from people who have been found by a judge to be a danger to themselves or others.
Supporters say this bill would reduce gun violence including suicides and lessen the risk of shootings, while opponents say it would deny people their due process and their constitutional right to bear arms, without having committed a crime.
Do you support or oppose this Red Flag Law?
The Journal says that the poll was a statewide sample of 515 adults, was conducted January 31-February 4, and has a margin of error of ± 4.3 percentage points

They aren't going to enforce that on the interstates, are they?
Red flag? Current state flag has a red sun against a yellow background. So the background will be red too?
Most polls are probably like surveys. The folks originating them already know what the outcome will be so they ask the questions in the way that will achieve that result.
Not me, but I don't a landline anymore and don't answer phone calls from numbers that I don't know (if its important to get in touch with me, they can leave a voice mail).
Who cares what they back, red flag laws directly violate the 4th, 5th and 2nd amendments of the United States Constitution so they can stuff it. Those that oppose these laws have absolute right to opt out and tell the state to go phuck themselves.
Typical female emotional mentality. There is a psycho losing his mind who is scary. We’ll go take his guns, and enrage him. Then we’ll leave him there alone it his house.
...with knives, machetes, hatchets, axes, poisons, gasoline and matches, explosives, electricity, rental vans, pickup trucks, etc.
Bright idea. Identify the nut, and go take some easily replaceable property. Leave the nut.
Anyone ever think of locking up the nut?
That said -the 2nd Ammendment:
"A free people ought not only be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government. George Washington
"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance. Let them take arms. Thomas Jefferson
"I ask, sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people. To disarm the people is the best and most effective way to enslave them. George Mason, Virginia Convention to Ratify the U.S. Constitution, 1788
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759
Next-A quick quiz:
Two are campaigning to be leader of a country.
One of them is a crooked tyrant, up to no good.
Which one is the likely tyrant?
_Candidate A- enthusiastically supports citizens keeping arms.
_Candidate B-swears to take guns away from all citizens, (except police and military), and promises this will make everyone safe.
Think carefully about your choice.
Finally, look into countries like Venezuela, and see what happened to their people, after they allowed the polticians to take their guns away.
Next up.... Pot
