SIMI VALLEY, Calif. (KABC) -- A special honor has been awarded to a Hollywood hero.
Gary Sinise, known to many as beloved "Lieutenant Dan" in the classic film "Forrest Gump," was given the Patriot Award at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley.
It's the highest honor given out by the organization, the Congressional Medal of Honor Society.
In the years since Sinise made "Forrest Gump," he's spent his off-camera time raising money for veterans groups.

This was held last night. I had the privilege of attending and having dinner with a MOH recipient and his wife. In all there were 24 MOH recipients there to honor Gary and Dave McIntyre.

Excellent!
Gary Sinise is most deserving of the honor because of the work he’s done for veterans.

A most deserving reward is this. Gary Sinse “Lt Dann” never expresses his political beliefs. He is just a a good man that supports our vets and also our deceased vets and their families 100%.
He is a man to be admired!

How wonderful!!
Kudos to Gary...who is such a blessing to so many of our dear vets.
Kudos to you, for being able to attend, sit with a MOH recipient and for posting this!
Sinise’s Foundation is one of our faves to have the honor to support.

I donated to his Vet. Foundation in Dec. Not a lot, but every bit helps. It’s a highly rated charity as far as the percentage of money that actually goes to the Vets. vs. Administration costs.

In the latter part of my career, every unit I was in had an officer nicknamed “Lt. Dan”. He wasn’t always a Lieutenant but he was energetic, gung ho, hardcore and a man who made things happen. It was a mark of respect.
