I’m with you Tol, but even that may be somewhat low. I estimate 300 people die each day due to natural causes in Wuhan, and they have said that one shift was enough for the crematoriums, during normal circumstances.

But now they’re 24/7 (for at least the past 2 weeks). That means 600 to 900 more dead per day, so the 20,000 number that was floating around earlier in the week starts to make sense.

It it not good there...and we’re not even close to getting it all.

“Yikes. I’m thinking they need to quarantine them all 14 days PAST the last confirmation.”

I was thinking the same...there’s no law that says viruses must strike all people at the same time on a ship, and the Japan evacuation showed half of the people who tested positive didn’t even have symptoms.

“I presume they are confined to their rooms to minimize the spread.”

They are now, but weren’t initially...oh well.

Good to see, but they’re still slow on this. At a minimum, the cut-off to China needs to be nationwide. And probably Hong Kong too. And I’m getting close to saying that for all of Asia.

Those Japan numbers are the most helpful we have IM<HO.
And, IMHO, eventually there’ll be a 100% infection rate on that cruise ship. Unless they have a very different air circulation system than they need.

They should be moved to an appropriate facility forthwith. At the line’s expense.

low blood sugar in diabetics can be dangerous because the body runs on glucose. Low glucose, low electric. Low electric, low functions. Besides the obvious effects on the heart, the diabetic may act like a drunk at closing time - rambling, confused, emotional, distressed - which can be misinterpreted by observers. (we saw a bit of that distress in the video - he’s worried about dying from diabetic coma instead of concern about the virus). The med station on board should have glucose tabs. Although hopefully he’s got his own kit, too, and getting more food by now.

Yea, that’s why I said he said he should get another doctor...he’ll need to first get off the meds (assuming Type 2, of course), then he won’t get hit by low glucose if he fasts. But if he fasts, or even goes low-carb, while still on meds, then yes, what you say can happen, and it can kill hime.

Fifth China evacuee at MCAS Miramar hospitalized for coronavirus evaluation
Posted: February 6, 2020
Sasha Foo

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A fifth person who was evacuated from the Wuhan region of China and brought to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar was hospitalized Thursday after developing symptoms that warranted further observation for possible exposure to the deadly coronavirus.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the patient — described only as an adult — “developed a fever or a cough” that prompted the precautionary hospitalization. The person was taken to UC San Diego Health.

Four other people, including a 4-year-old girl, were hospitalized Wednesday afternoon, hours after a plane carrying 167 Americans landed at the northern San Diego military base. All of the passengers underwent medical screening upon landing.

CCP will be going door to door for temp checks. (And since everybody is registered to every apt, they will know if someone is hiding)

“...What a horrid situation and terrible way to go. Stuck on that barf barge.”

And the virus is found and possibly spread in feces. What are they going to do with the ship’s septic waste?

That’s what I wondered (on another post).

Just terrible.

Here is a personal report - apologies if already posted - from someone who skyped an interview (to CNBC...who has, remarkably, been pretty on top of the reporting, for this virus)....it sounds just unbelievably horrid....

...The luxury days ‘are gone’ — Guest describes life inside quarantined cruise ship off Japan
Published Thu, Feb 6 20209:28 PM ESTUpdated 42 min ago

One of the quarantined passengers aboard a Princess Cruises ship told CNBC on Thursday that the vessel is moored, but guests are not allowed to leave.

“The cruise has ended and we are in a quarantine situation,” said 74-year-old David Abel, who’s being held on the Diamond Princess with his wife, Sally, in Japan as the cruise line plays a role in stopping the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

He spoke to CNBC through a Skype call that aired on the network’s special “Outbreak” report.

“All of the luxury of having someone — a steward coming to the cabin, make the bed, put chocolate on the pillow, change the towels, face cloths, clean the bathroom — those days are gone,” Abel said explaining the environment. “It just ain’t happening.”....

...Abel’s been leading a private Facebook group for his fellow passengers in an effort to “let off steam” and cheer each other up. He’s also been posting daily Facebook Live videos, while the ship provides guests with complimentary internet and phone service.

“Those passengers who are on the inside cabins: they’ve got no windows to look out of, there’s no daylight, natural light and they can’t take a walk down a corridor. It’s strict confinement to cabins for all passengers,” Abel said in describing the scene from inside. “But the captain has announced that people on the inside cabins are going to be allowed access onto the open deck for exercise and fresh air.”....

Dimer Offers New Germ-Killing Robot to Disinfect Airplanes at Key US Airports to Protect Passengers from Coronavirus Outbreak

LOS ANGELES—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Dimer UVC Innovations is offering its GermFalcon®, a germ-killing robot that sanitizes airplanes, to assist airlines and federal agencies disrupt the spread of a new pneumonia-like illness originating in the Wuhan region of China. The service is being offered at no expense to airlines at select U.S. airports during this crisis.

The new virus is a member of the coronavirus family, known to survive on surfaces for up to 28 days—especially in low-humidity environments like commercial airplanes. Federal agencies are requiring airports at major U.S. ports of entry, including LAX, SFO, and JFK, to initiate enhanced health screenings of passengers arriving from Wuhan, China......

Yeah, dry and cool preserve it nearly danged forever.

IIRC I read that’s why HK had a worse deal with SARS than Malaysia/Indonesia/etc. HK used a/c much more extensively and the virus flourished indoors that way. Fomites...
