decorated U.S. Air Force colonel slated to take command of the base that hosts Air Force One has been sentenced to five years in prison for receiving child pornography.
Mark Visconi, 48, of Fairfax, Virginia, was jailed on Friday after he plead guilty to receipt of child pornography in October. He was also sentenced to 15 years of supervised release in a federal court in Alexandria.
Visconi used the anonymous Tor network to download child pornography, according to a news release from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). A forensic review of his laptop showed he had downloaded and viewed "numerous" pictures and videos of child pornography.

The article refers to "his laptop." Could that actually be the one the Gov. issues to him; ditto for the cell phone he used to take pictures of underaged females behinds. Was he really that stupid??
I have long suspected that all devices have files on the “root drive” or whatever it’s called that come with the computer. Screw with the wrong people who know how to get those files out and that’s it. You’re done. Anyone who “gets in the way” or becomes otherwise inconvenient, you get a long sentence which may be a death sentence as an inmate will kill you. Of course, the guy could just be a creep.

One possible answer to that is that he was in a protected “nest” for so long he believed himself to be untouchable.
If the charges are true, his proclivities had to be known within his chain of command for a long while. How’d he get promoted? How’d he avoid courts martial? Who’s responsible for his rise in the ranks and his latest command posting?
Why would a child porno be put in command of the same base that keeps and maintains AF1?
There was a failed show a few years back called The Chicago Code. An alderman was a little too interested in battling corruption, so he came home to cops in his garage with boxes of child pornography. “Maybe we *didn’t* find this stuff in your possession. Maybe both of us will just drop our investigations.”
And viola! He gets the job.
Doesn’t even have to plant it. It comes with all of them (is my guess, obviously I can’t prove it).
I would never, today, claim to be “tech literate” but 25 years ago I knew all kinds of stuff. How to hide things in a computer so only you can find it. Where to look for things people are trying to hide. All kinds of useful stuff.

An Air Force colonel who flew more than 100 sorties in combat in Iraq is now facing five years in prison after pleading guilty in federal court in Virginia to receiving child pornography.
Col. Mark Visconi, 48, admitted to both soliciting and accepting images of child pornography over the internet between November 2015 and June 2016, federal prosecutors said.
He pleaded guilty on Oct. 4 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
Officials with the Department of Justice said Col. Visconi, a Fairfax resident, used an online bulletin board operating on an anonymous open source software network known as TOR or “The Onion Router” to download the illicit images.
“A forensic review of his laptop showed that Visconi downloaded and viewed numerous child pornography images and videos,” prosecutors said in a statement after his guilty plea.
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations office in Washington found images on his cell phone that indicated Col. Visconi was taking “upskirt” shots of minor girls.
“It does not appear that any of the girls were aware that pictures were taken,” officials said.
Col. Visconi, a special operations pilot, is a 1993 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, Pentagon documents show. Also an Arabic linguist, he logged 136 combat hours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom while training Iraqi air force personnel.
“They risk their lives and the lives of their families every time they put on the uniform, yet they do. That’s a hard thing for most of us to comprehend,” Col. Visconi said in 2007 after receiving an award for his work with Iraqi personnel, according to a U.S. Air Force Academy press release at the time.
It was not clear Tuesday whether he may face a military court martial in addition to the federal court case against him.
Sentencing in the federal court case is set for January 2020. Col. Visconi is facing five years in federal prison, prosecutors said.

The charges are true. He pled guilty. But your questions are spot on.
Civilian court, not courts martial.
And why couldn't they find an enlisted guy/gal/whatever to take the fall for an officer as is traditionally done?
Pedophilia is a disease for which there is no cure. These people will do it over and over again, regardless of the consequences.
