DHS suspends Global Entry, Trusted Traveler Programs for New York residents in response to sanctuary law
FoxNews ^ | Feb 05, 2020 | Gregg Re

Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf exclusively told Fox News' "Tucker Carlson Tonight" Wednesday that DHS was immediately suspending Global Entry and several other Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) for all New York state residents -- a dramatic move in response to the liberal state's recently enacted sanctuary "Green Light Law."

The sweeping order came a day after President Trump, in his State of the Union address, condemned left-wing states and local governments that "release dangerous criminal aliens to prey upon the public," and called on Congress to pass a law establishing civil liability for sanctuary cities.

In a letter to top New York state officials obtained exclusively by Fox News, Wolf noted that the New York law prohibited state DMVs from sharing criminal records with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

"In New York alone, last year ICE arrested 149 child predators, identified or rescued 105 victims of exploitation and human trafficking, arrested 230 gang members, and seized 6,487 pounds of illegal narcotics, including fentanyl and opioids," Wolf wrote. "In the vast majority of these cases, ICE relied on New York DMV records to fulfill its mission."

Wonder why this is being limited to New York. I would apply this measure to any self-proclaimed sanctuary city that refuses to cooperate with any Federal Law Enforcement agencies.

I'll bet the citizens of all those states would soon put enormous pressure on their "woke" state representatives as they have to wait in long lines at airports.

“Wonder why this is being limited to New York.”

Related to Green Light Law.

“I would apply this measure “to any self-proclaimed sanctuary city that refuses to cooperate with any Federal Law Enforcement agencies.”

Are you above the law?

Yup,saw that.I have a NEXUS card that I've used once...entering Canada and then returning (by car).Haven't used it in an airport yet.

Just a warning to New Yorkers that elections have consequences. Too bad the Feds couldn't punish New Yorkers in other ways as well.

I’ve heard that there is already a long wait for the Global Entry approval, but I thought it was nationwide. Will people in NY who have applications already in the system be even more negatively affected?

Unfortunately the entire state is held hostage by the Leftist lunatics in New York City.

The rest of the state votes reasonably, but are overwhelmed.

Okay, maybe not Buffalo, Rochester and Utica, but you know what I mean.

I have conservative family members on Long Island that travel overseas for their jobs, rather frequently. One recently told me that her Global Entry application (renewal) has been processing for 9 months already. When she checked on the status of her application over the weekend, it still said “pending”. Average citizens can’t change politicians minds very easily, so I hope this is rectified very soon.

I hear you. This will affect a family member of mine. I do wish that NYC would get rid of its sanctuary city designation, though. Perhaps this will be the thing to change the minds of people in authority, in similar fashion to Mexico actually being our first “wall.”

From US Customs and Border Control:

Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. Members enter the United States through automatic kiosks at select airports.

At airports, program members proceed to Global Entry kiosks, present their machine-readable passport or U.S. permanent resident card, place their fingerprints on the scanner for fingerprint verification and complete a customs declaration. The kiosk issues the traveler a transaction receipt and directs the traveler to baggage claim and the exit.

Travelers must be pre-approved for the Global Entry program. All applicants undergo a rigorous background check and in-person interview before enrollment.

While Global Entry’s goal is to speed travelers through the process, members may still be selected for further examination when entering the United States. Any violation of the program’s terms and conditions will result in the appropriate enforcement action and termination of the traveler’s membership privileges.
