Chinese Officials’ Statements Show Authorities Are Hiding Real Scale of Coronavirus Outbreak
The Epoch Times ^ | February 5, 2020 | Simin Chen

One of the reports wrote, “At State Council’s press conference on Feb, 3, Tian Yulong, chief engineer of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, announced that by Feb. 1, the daily output of the diagnosis kits had reached 773,000, which is 40 times the number of suspected patients. Therefore, China’s medical facilities now have a sufficient supply of diagnosis kits.”

The other report, however, quoted a medical expert as saying that there is a shortage of diagnosis kits in Wuhan City, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak.

I inquired as to the well being of a business contact in China a few days ago.

Here is part of the reply:

“Hello xxxxxxx,

Thanks for contacting and your concern mate, yes it is a mess over here, a huge impact across China, everything is just about at a standstill, it will tarnish the economy big time. Huge impact global.

We are doing OK so far, keeping well protected and staying in our home most of the time, much the same for all China people.

China is in gridlock, now Hong Kong have stopped mainland China from entering. The virus is spreading, with casualties in most provinces of China mainland, most of the infected/casualties originate from the cities/province it started from.

Most of China is a mess, filthy, hygiene none existing in most places, a huge % of the population are lacking big time for when it comes to personal hygiene and conduct when they are ill or full of flu, even medical staff in hospitals cough, spit right were they stand and at you when talking with them. Nobody seams to care or want to be made aware of what they are doing.”

Either they are insanely over reacting, or their official story is a complete fabrication.

I'll take "complete fabrication" for $1,000 please.

There are absolutely no official numbers out of China that can be trusted.

Even the Chinese Government does not know the extent of what they have unleashed. They lie to themselves even more so than to the barbarians outside their borders. The one unmistakable thing is that they are terrified and willing to take extreme measures - like shutting down most of their economy.

I suppose we should pay attention to that - and respond accordingly.

[The other possibility is that China is making a bunch of kits and they are sitting in a warehouse somewhere or have been sent to Beijing to protect government officials. So Wuhan still has shortages. Or the PLA “lost” a bunch of them and they ended up at PLA headquarters to project generals.

In a communist government, those are perfectly credible explanations for the Wuhan shortage amidst amped up production.

Kind of like the Puerto Rico hurricane supplies that ended up in warehouses all over Puerto Rico, causing shortages of supplies where they were needed.]

During the Great Leap Forward, tens of millions of Chinese died of starvation. Mao Zedong accepted only fabricated harvest numbers that showed record production, executing those who reported the actual poor numbers as counter-revolutionary traitors. Starvation was effected by taking a portion of the harvest at a rate that seemed reasonable based on bogus numbers, but reached 100% in some areas that were particularly hard-hit by poor results. Meanwhile, Mao’s coterie dined on expensive delicacies such as bear paws and shark fins. All “communist” countries provide equal treatment only in theory. In practice, some animals are more equal than others. In extremis, this means Party animals get to live, whereas the hoi polloi die en masse.

The real story is not the virus itself, it’s how the whole world operates at the whims and demands of the Chinese govt. That’s what the story should be about. Not flipping out every time you see a person with a mask.

“How many how have died in China from the regular flu this season? I think it’s around 10,000 in the US.”

...and they stopped TESLA production (perhaps that will covey the seriousness of what’s going on there).

Two vendors just sent me notice that they will have shortages starting next week.

China did not just crater their economy for nothing.

This is not just the flu

“Two vendors just sent me notice that they will have shortages starting next week.”

I’m nervous because I’m waiting until Saturday (due to travel) to order my final prepping supplies. I’m not sure how 90% of Chinese exports can be stopped (and pretty soon other Asian exports), without putting this country through a gut-punch.

I cited the 2% figure in my post you didn’t fully read.

...

Which you tried to turn into a 30% mortality rate.

Stop spreading fear.

I gave numbers for the calculations involved. A reasonable person could follow along and understand which numbers mean what.

This is not the flu. You cannot honestly compare it to the flu.

Stop spreading ignorance.

Didn't see that coming!

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.

“770 thousand a day!?!

that’s impressive for a communist country”

Yeah, but only 450,000 of them actually work.

"Has anyone other than an Asian been diagnosed with the virus?"

Older non-Asians? Medical organizations are keeping a tight lid on information. We probably won't see an answer to that question, until serious cases have arrived in our own neighborhoods. Then we'll see the answer up close.

A crematorium worker in Wuhan, China, confirmed that officials are working at an alarming pace to burn the bodies of the deceased in the city amid the coronavirus outbreak.

“We need to pick up bodies when they call us. Every day, we need at least 100 body bags,” a crematorium worker named Mr. Yun told the Epoch Times. “We can’t stop because we can’t leave the bodies outside for a long time.”

The factoid that shocked me was that in one city a crematorium was handling over 100 bodies a day and working 24/7 because of the outbreak. If you multiply that by just a few large cities and figure even half the bodies are not due to the virus, then it has to be well over 400 deaths so far.
