If Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) had an ulterior motive for his decision to vote to convict President Trump for abuse of power, he's doing a good job of hiding it.
In an interview with The Atlantic, Romney was asked about a speculative story published by The Washington Examiner, which suggested his bipartisan behavior during the Senate impeachment trial was part of a plan to run for president in 2024. Romney, people told the Examiner, was trying to establish himself as the star of the Republican old guard should Trump fail in the 2020 election.
That apparently got Romney right in the gut, but not because his feelings were hurt. Instead, per The Atlantic, Romney cracked up at the idea. "Yes! That's it!," he reportedly jokingly exclaimed. "Look at the base I have! It's going to be at least 2 or 3 percent of the Republican Party. As goes Utah, so goes the nation!"

You are right. But it would be fun to take it to its natural (legal) conclusion.
I laughed hysterically about the very same thing.
I’m watching it now, and her comments about his trying to bargain with the Log Cabin Republicans to get their support for his President run, is nothing more than quid pro quo. What a slime ball. It must kill him that Log Cabin Republicans endorsed President Trump in his reelection bid.
This vote is about Romney and his imagined legacy as a statesman, not a Republican.
I’m not a Republican either, but I wouldn’t have voted for that silly charge to be upheld.
When it comes to Romney, everything is about Romney.
Naw, Pierre could really just have been that bad.
He came from the same brilliant political strategists who gave us McStupid.
The last Republican I voted for prior to Trump was Ronald Reagan. I sure as hell did not vote for the democrat either. I live in Texas and it would go Republican with no doubt so my vote for the libertarians was a protest vote against RINOs and middle of the road Republicans. My down ticket vote was all Republican.
I did vote for Trump as he said the right things to get my vote but at the same time I wondered, does he really mean it?
He did mean it and acted on his promises! I will proudly vote for Donald Trump in the next election and send money also. In the last election he stood between the abyss on one side which is the socialist democrat party and our great nation sliding into that abyss.
Thus Mittens dost secure himself the treasured “John McCain Throne of Swords” and will be held dearly by the DemonRats until he runs again.

Fine by me....
I heard he said he discussed it with his family. His family didnt fricken elect him! POS!!!
Why am I thinking a bat and slippery hands?
LOL
Bingo! He really likes using the government issue 'Back-stabbing Dagger & Letter Opener' he inherited from John McCain...
He could not run for dog catcher at this point
I dont think he would get a vote from either party.
He plans to run for President.
Mitt Romney is a person without any principles of any kind, variety, and description. He’s called Etch A Sketch for a reason.
“Hell never win another election of any kind as a Republican.”
Never underestimate the propensity of large numbers of Mormons to vote for one of their own regardless of their political affiliation.
Yeah...some 61 million of us thought Romney would be better than Obama.
Turns out that our vote count of 61 million was wrong 61 million times.
I don’t think this is it. Minion may be corrupt, but no more than 90% of the Senators.
What drives Minion is unexplainable hate for Trump. He hates Trump not only because he won, but because as a Mormon he was been inculcated with the notion that you are “polite” in public (no matter what you really do). It’s more style over substance, but on steroids.
Third, he is driven by retribution for the humiliation Trump put him through in dangling that Sec State job in front of him.
