Trump Claims End of ‘American Decline’ While Avoiding Mention of Impeachment in State of the Union

WASHINGTON — President Trump claimed credit for a “great American comeback” in a speech to Congress on Tuesday night, boasting of a robust economy, contrasting his successes with the records of his predecessors and projecting optimism in the face of a monthslong Democratic effort to force him from office.

Mr. Trump, who lamented what he called “American carnage” when he was inaugurated in January 2017, described a different country today, declaring in his third State of the Union address that the nation’s future was once again “blazing bright.”

“In just three short years, we have shattered the mentality of American Decline and we have rejected the downsizing of America’s destiny,” Mr. Trump said in a speech that lasted 78 minutes. “We have totally rejected the downsizing. We are moving forward at a pace that was unimaginable just a short time ago, and we are never, ever going back!” ....

in a remarkable moment — awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Rush Limbaugh , the combative conservative talk radio host and for decades a villain to the left.

Standing next to Mr. Limbaugh, who recently learned he has advanced lung cancer, Melania Trump, the first lady, draped the medal around his neck as Mr. Trump thanked him for “decades of tireless devotion to our country.”

Why mention something that amounted to nothing when he has so much to be proud of?

Had the President said ANYTHING about impeachment,
They would have screamed “Jury tampering!”

Speaking of impeachment, when is it expected the Senate will vote on the articles? It would be good to get that over with so that the House can start on the next set of impeachment articles. I wish the latter was sarcasm.

That’s because part of the end of American Decline includes the implosion of the D party, which is what the Impeachment was.

I compare it to the famous Duke lacrosse team case. Trump is the team and the democrats are Nifong. It’s a huge win for trump and a catastrophy for the D’s.

Already heard it this morning. Not sure which rat it was—paraphrased-—the Constitution doesn’t limit us from impeaching more than once. Just disgusting.....

But you know we need to focus on how great the SOTU was and stay positive. Proud to be an American !

Mentioning impeachment would have legitimized it by making it a thing worth addressing.
Ignoring it, and presenting a massive list of awe-inspiring accomplishments, set a framework persuading those wobbly about impeachment to consider: “all that greatness, and House Democrats want to eviscerate it all because of ... a 3 day delay over a corruption inquiry? No.”

Strategically the speech was pure genius: nothing at all for the demonrats to cheer, everything for Americans to cheer.

4pm acquittal in the Senate. Then the Dems can all parrot their new talking point, the American economy is in the dumpster....good luck with that.

Yup. Rush may very well be incapacitated or interred by next week at this rate re: cancer. Giving him the medal last night (A) ensured he got it while still able to with dignity, and (B) gave him the largest audience possible. Given the nature of his work, Rush has earned a bigger forum for the presentation than a few onlookers in the Oval Office.

“Rush may very well be incapacitated or interred by next week at this rate”

I pray that is not the case. I huge void would be left without him. Come on Rush, you can beat this. We are supposed to play golf someday. I have not met you yet to inform you of that, but it is inevitable.

Shows how much it impacted him, and how little the public cares about what has been a partisan persecution from the start.
