The Chinese government has implemented strict measures in the prevention and control of the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV), escalating it to the highest priority with an intent to protect public health and minimize further spreading of the virus.
In accordance with government guidelines and to protect the health and safety of exhibitors and guests, SEMI announced Tuesday the postponement of SEMICON/FPD China 2020 and related events originally scheduled for March 18-20, 2020. SEMI China is actively working on a contingency plan for rescheduling of the event and will keep you informed as soon as a confirmed plan is in place.
SEMICON/FPD China has become the leading semiconductor and display industry event in China and globally because of your continuous participation and contribution.
SEMI is evaluating the health risks the Novel Coronavirus poses at other upcoming exhibitions and conferences and will make decisions whether to hold them as planned on a case-by-case basis.
SEMI also encouraged their guests and sponsors to remain abreast of developments on the Novel Coronavirus by visiting the World Health Organization website for updates.
Probably not news to some, expect to see this in chat. *sigh*
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.
Cancelling a trade show is going to be nothing compared to all the semiconductor plants stopping production for weeks or months.
Almost every product made has a chip in it.
There was an article here a couple days ago about companies invoking their Force Majeur contract clauses due to their inability to secure reliable supplies of parts.
Yup.
Even if production resumes, how many critical employees are dead or incapacitated with this? Have lost close family members and just aren’t ‘in the game’ for a long time hence.
But the flu kills millions.
Hey it is posted and out for comment!
Defending the First Amendment from an immediate threat is apparently not worthy of being called activism, but can only be called chat.
Stopped going to Semicon about 15 years ago. Don’t miss it - but I would like to stop by once in a while to see what’s new.
Me too!
Litho’s come a long way since sub-micron lines and spaces was huge!
Close to my heart since I spent 10 years in litho.
Only 36 years for me...
WoW! I got derailed into metrology.
Would that be more stress or less?
Ya, um, I won’t be attended the rescheduled relocated event ...
About the same. Got to process those wafers!
I attended many of the SEMICON events.
Amazingly, a couple months ago, I ran across a drawer that contained all the badges I was issued to attend these events.
Retired from TI at the end of 1994.
Clean water?
Adequate and wholesome food?
Decent home space, that is warm and dry?
Health Care?
Massive armed forces with which to expand the territory their dirty water, non-wholesome food, inadequate housing, and an abysmal health care system exist in?
C H I N A . F A I L !
The "Worker's Paradise" is hanging by a thread.
After decades, it sure as hell should be.
Remember the Alamo!
Remember Tiananmen Square!
Remember 2019 nCoV!
Power to the people...
