Freshly made pasta is drying on the wooden bannisters lining the hall of a beautiful home in Denver, Colorado. Fox-hunting photos decorate the walls in a room full of books. A fire is burning. And downstairs, a group of liberal white women have gathered around a long wooden table to admit how racist they are.

“Recently, I have been driving around, seeing a black person, and having an assumption that they are up to no good,” says Alison Gubser. “Immediately after I am like, that’s no good! This is a human, just doing their thing. Why do I think that?”

This is Race to Dinner. A white woman volunteers to host a dinner in her home for seven other white women – often strangers, perhaps acquaintances. (Each dinner costs $2,500, which can be covered by a generous host or divided among guests.) A frank discussion is led by co-founders Regina Jackson, who is black, and Saira Rao, who identifies as Indian American. They started Race to Dinner to challenge liberal white women to accept their racism, however subconscious. “If you did this in a conference room, they’d leave,” Rao says. “But wealthy white women have been taught never to leave the dinner table.”

Did she mean to say, 'Immediately I think, that's no good'? Or did Alison mean to say, 'Why do I go like that?'

I hate that the word 'like' has become a substitute for 'I think', 'I thought', 'I said', and a whole list of other personal pronouns that get thrown together with 'like'. An educated person should be able to speak properly and not like a 12 year old.

They are looking at the effect of racism, not the cause. Racism is a learned behavior. As Orin Hatch pointed out in a debate with Jesse Jackson on gun control, if you removed the murders committed by black men between the ages of 16 and 30, the US would have a lower murder rate than Switzerland. The real question is why is that so? Blacks want to say it's because of racism. I don't think so. I think it's because of the breakdown of the black family. I also think that Johnson's War on Poverty accelerated the decline by rewarding mothers with subsidies if the father isn't present. Why not create programs that encourage fathers to participate in the raising of their children rather than forcing them away? Stupid policies make the problem worse and eating a $2500 lunch ain't going to fix it.

I think we need a national discussion about racism. Exactly how should it properly be defined?

Regarding blacks, this land of opportunity has worked well for them for they have substantial numbers in every aspect of American society and modern culture. And it has become successful because the white people willed it happen. I know of no area of American life where black people are not only welcome, but are already succeeding. Is it necessary to continue coddling them by guarding words, yearbook pictures, etc??

This racism rant must come to an end.

Except for a few small, insignificant pockets where it will never be eradicated, America is not a racist nation.
