Zhan Qingyuan, director of pneumonia prevention and treatment at the China-Japan Friendship Hospital, said even people who have recovered may not be immune to the virus. "For those patients who have been cured, there is a likelihood of a relapse," he said in a briefing on Friday. "The antibody will be generated; however, in certain individuals, the antibody cannot last that long."

On Xray, the patients lungs look they’re ‘ground glass’. Lung damage seems certain. Question is, is it certain or do they heal?

Hadn't heard of that, either. I just looked up "chickenpox pneumonia" and, sure enough...
Varicella pneumonia is a type of viral pneumonia. It is a common cause of multiple small round calcific lung lesions. Varicella-zoster virus most commonly causes self-limited benign disease (chickenpox) in children. However, in adults it tends to cause significant complications including varicella pneumonia.
Also...
Shingles may lead to serious complications involving the eye, including blindness. Very rarely, it can also lead to pneumonia, hearing problems, brain inflammation (encephalitis), or; death.
Sounds like HSV pneumonia has a few limited causes...
Herpes simplex virus (HSV) pneumonia can occur in patients with complications of immunosuppression, airway injury from intubation or smoke inhalation.

I guess I should be getting the shingles vaccination.

Will be interesting development to see.

Still not sure about Hot Toddy man from Wales and whether he really had it. Seems like he wants publicity...but I will assume now that caucasians can get it.

I got the shingles vaccine a few years ago. Then, on FR a few months back, I read about a new shingles vaccine named "Shingrix" which is more effective. I asked my doc and he said "Yes, you should get the new one." It's a two-part vaccination taken at least 30 days apart.

Hmmm...so he thinks you should get the new one even if you had the old one. Interesting.

I dont ever get the flu vaccines but I think this one might be necessary
