Thailand has reportedly seen promising results after treating a coronavirus patient with a mix of two antiviral drugs which are usually used to treat HIV.
Medics tested the drug mix on a patient who was in a 'serious condition' with the disease and within 48 hours they were declared disease-free, reports Bloomberg.
The drugs, originally used for HIV and influenza treatment, were a success according to a medical briefing given by Dr Kriangsak Attipornwanich. ...

Based on the German cases, and reports that people have gotten better, only to suddenly relapse. I’d still want to see that guy quarantined for another 10 days and repeatedly tested.
Thailand, unhindered by US regulations, has excellent medical care. If doctors are left free to think, integrate, experiment, this is a predictable result.

Where did the drugs come from that they used?
Studies for new drugs typically involve large numbers of patients for the sake of statistical validity.
With that said, this is a promising story and provides a potential treatment regime that others may emulate to prove or disprove the drugs as an effective treatment.
Lest we forget, Trump passed “right to try” so a patient in rapid decline with this virus would have the option of doing this regardless of what the FDA says or does not say about it.
The drugs used to treat HIV are also used to treat hepatitis C and human papilloma virus. HIV has caused us to begin developing antivirals with surprising numbers of other applications.
I imagine they used existing approved antiviral and antiretroviral drugs. In Everett, WA, by contrast, the experimental Gilead anti-Ebola drug was used, along with one or two others.
There isnt a substantiative link between HIV and this coronavirus, but some of the meds developed for HIV can be used to disrupt the coronavirus replication mechanism in the body. HIV drugs are also being used for things that long predate HIV, like Hep C and HPV.
Give it a week.
I said the other day to watch Thailand because of the stuff that goes on with tourists there.
Never figured it would be for finding a cure.
I thought the same thing.
A freeper posted that he was on a main highway there and saw lots of blue Chinese license plates headed south.
And thailand does have almost 20 cases. Third behind China and Japan.
I expected south asia would explode with it.

Yep. Know about the Lymes Disease scheme?
yes. at least on rna viruses
No, Havent heard of it. Whats it about?
And the problem is?
Kind of like the scenario of I Am Legend where the cure for a virus turns out to be the true global killer I believe.
I wouldn’t want to be on that flight cleaning crew.
Interesting, thanks.
Hmmm... taken with a grain of salt.
Article says docs used drugs which normally treat hiv and flue. Later it says docs used 2 drugs which treat HIV. Non specific info on HIV drugs since there are different classes which affect different metabolic pathwshs of HIV. So what are they? Knowing what they used would allay many unnecessary fears.
A great many Thai names contain that sequence of letters.
