The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

In the last four days, 2019 nCoV cases outside of China have grown by these rates:

That spike on the 31st may have been a reporting lag as much as anything else. The day before was quite low.

One person has died outside of China. That’s a 0.565% mortality rate.

As of last night, the mortality rate for all documented cases was running at 2.094%.

As of last night, the recovery rate for all documented cases was running at 2.324%.

The recovery number today has already jumped by 103 cases. That’s a 30.29% plus jump in recoveries since yesterday.

How can anyone know the R0 number until they have tested a wide number of people? I mean, lots and lots? General population. Some people may have it with no symptoms, or mild, etc.

I wonder how they know about the flu numbers. I get it every few years and have never gone to doctor or been tested. Do they know from the tested people what the real R0 number is with flu? They seem so sure of themselves.
