She was 10 when she came here. So she saw people laying around in a park and/or not dressed in their Sunday best?

And she knew...she just knew that this was not the America she was told about.

But look what happened...you went to OUR schools, lived in OUR housing, ate OUR food and live pretty damn good. Help someone....don't just talk about it.

Exactly.

When I was a lot younger than 10, I would see the homeless regularly on my trips to NYC to see family. I understood quite well then that they existed due to their poor choices and or because the state hospitals turned them out. My family explained as much to me.

It would not take much to explain to a 10 year-old coming to this country how few homeless exist relative to the population and why they are homeless and to drive them around to various neighborhoods of varying property values and explain the correlation of the level of homes to the industry in the area.
