Antibiotics are directed at bacterial pathogens. They are useless for viruses. A limited number of antivirals directed at impairing viral replication exist with inconsistent performance. Vaccines directed against viral antigens take a couple weeks for the recipient to generate an effective titer of antibody. If the virus mutates in a way that changes the antigenic target, the virus is no longer subject to intervention by the existing antibody. We’re early in the process of finding a stable target antigen on this new corona virus.
Maybe China doesn’t have enough common sense to run a Level 4 microbiology lab either.
This could be a colossal mistake due to subpar building practices in China. This Level 4 microbiology lab in Wuhan is very new.
What if the virus was being weaponized for use against the west and escaped by accident from the lab because of shoddy construction.
