Democratic hopes that a special state House election in Texas would show they had the clout to turn the Lone Star State blue were dashed Tuesday night after voters handed a massive win to Republican Gary Gates.
Gates defeated Democrat Eliz Markowitz 58 percent to 42 percent in the 28th District special election to fill a vacant seat, according to The Hill.
Democrats everywhere said this Texas election was a bellwether and that it would set the tone for the entire 2020 election cycle, said Austin Chambers, president of the Republican State Leadership Committee, according to the Houston Chronicle.
Spoiler alert: Theyre right, it was just not with the outcome Democrats hoped for, he said.
In a statement, Republican Gov. Greg Abbott celebrated the partys victory.
Today, voters resoundingly rejected the Democrats socialist ideology and took a major step toward keeping Texas red. As we look ahead to the 2020 election, we must be prepared to replicate this success across the state if we are to secure a more prosperous future for Texas, he said, according to The Hill.

It appears to me that this Texas election is a good indicator that Republicans are fired up and getting out the vote more than usual.
Real Americans are sick of the BS from dems. I’m moving to Central TX soon to get away from the cancer that has infected my state of CO.
And where are those articles that Texas turns blue? S/
What are you talking about? This is a historically Republican suburban district the Dems thought they could flip. They failed, badly, suggesting that the 2018 results are not carrying forward to 2020. That’s great news for us, but it’s still holding R territory not flipping D territory.
Wrong area sir. The link you posted is down in the valley that has always been blue. Its heavily hispanic. The election was in the Katy/Fort Bend County area, boarders Houston. Just south west of Houston/Harris County. I posted it because there is a lot of Californians..Yankee’s moving to the area. Just not enough to screw things up...yet. Its insane that they create the problem that they are running from. White people vote with moving vans but to many are moving here with the mental disorder called liberalism.
Sorry you’re leaving because we need good people here in Colorado but I can understand. You must have lived along the Front Range.
Great point.
Haha. Yes, unfortunately. In Colorado springs. Wife is sick of the cold. A real country girl that one. Her native state is lost to the Gayvenor. Sad.
[Texas 28th district has been historically VERY Blue. Election 2016 it was 66% Dems to 31 Republicans
This is like turning California Red type of change unless I’m missing something?
