VERNON A presentation of a draft resolution Monday night to the Vernon Township Council in support of creating a Second Amendment-supporting community, led to a debate among members of the audience, taking sides on various angles of this type of resolution.
As several communities within Sussex County have adopted this type of resolutions, members of the Skylands Tea Party a group that encompasses Sussex, Morris, Warren and Passaic counties and other individuals in support, approached Vernons council with it, in hopes it would be included on an upcoming meeting.
Vernon resident Jessica Bennet read a form letter into the record that has been circulating online with the draft resolution. The letter states that Trenton has infringed on the rights of abiding firearms owners, placing them under constitutional attack through state legislation that hampers the Second Amendment. Both the letter and the resolution indicate the permitting system in New Jersey since 1966 effectively separates those who are fit to carry from those who are not; and those who carry a firearms identification card satisfy the burden of proof that they are fit to carry. The resolution further states the municipality that adopts it, declares itself a Second Amendment/lawful gun owner township, that opposes New Jerseys red flag laws, which state a gun can be seized from an individual even if they are permitted to carry if a judge deems they may cause harm to themselves or someone else.
Bob Kirchmer, who said he has lived in the community since 1976, suggested the council not consider the resolution. Kirchmer said, though not a member of the NRA, he belongs to the Cherry Ridge Gun Club.
Do we want a safe community for our guns or our residents? Kirchmer asked.

I'm not saying NJ will flip Red, but between Wildwood and this article, maybe we're seeing 'green shoots' of liberty in the Garden State.
Just having people in our state bring up this subject is encouraging. A lot of us here in Warren County talk about 2 A all the time. Unfortunately we are not heard (ignored) in Trenton.
Dont read too much into this. Wildwood and Vernon are two places in New Jersey that are almost as far as you can get from the urban dumps that dominate the states politics.
Do you live in Jersey?
Yes.
Me too. All my life. Born and raised here. New Jersey is more than just urban wastelands. A lot more. It just needs to get rid of the Democrats.
Very true, I live in Vernon and it is very TRUMP up in here!!!!
