The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported the first case of person-to-person transmission of coronavirus in the U.S. In a telebriefing on Thursday, Dr. Robert Redfield, the CDC director, said the health agency had expected to identify "some" person-to-person spread in the U.S., but that risk to the American public "remains low."
The case involves a Chicago resident, who is the spouse of the first confirmed travel-related case in Illinois. Officials stressed that the woman, who is in her 60s and is said to be "doing well" and her husband, who is of similar age with underlying medical conditions, were in close contact before he developed symptoms. Officials said they believe the woman's husband was exposed to the virus while she was symptomatic.
Both patients remain hospitalized, and the man is stable. He marks the sixth case of coronavirus in the U.S. and the second in Illinois.
Officials said an investigative team is continuing to look into potential contacts of the couple.
At this time, the CDC said it does not recommend the general public wear masks, but that those who have recently traveled to China be vigilant about reporting possible symptoms.

Of course this was gonna happen.
But it seems the vast majority who died had pneumonia by the end.
Who wants to bet there’s not NEARLY enough antibiotics in the MANY places they are needed in China right now.
No steroids. How many people are getting fluids and nourishment from online drips?
I think quite a few people will get it in the US.
I think the mortality rate will be far lower than China, which I’m guessing is 5 to 10 or more percent, not 2.
2 percent will be here. And it’s a shame that anyone dies from this. But 10 percent would be a lot more of a shame!
It’s a serious thing going on.
We’re just in a MUCH better position to take it on.
That American in the ground zero Chinese city said the government is telling people don’t go to the hospital unless you’re very sick.
That’s bad
” Travel-related “?
Isn’t it time to halt flights to-and-from China until this virus is eradicated ?
I think so. It would cause havoc, but not as much as MANY infected people flying around the world. I think this is a lot worse than they are telling us. The number of deaths is almost doubling each day.
“At this time, the CDC said it does not recommend the general public wear masks ...”
Is this because masks are back ordered until mid-March and you can’t buy them right now?
How do you figure that? The biggest uncertainty is the number of cases. It could be 8k reported. It could be 90k (one province) reported by that nurse. It could be 100k or a million. We have no idea yet.
So then panic. What do you want me to tell you.
Sounds like you’ve made up your mind to panic already.
Where do you think all our antibiotics and steriods are made?
Quite the opposite. If there are a million mild cases then there is no reason to panic. If there are only 10k cases, then it doesn't spread easily. So need to panic either. Concern? Sure.
DUH, that’s how the flu spreads folks, THIS IS NOT NEWS, HOLY @#$#@ THAT IS HOW THE FLU SPREAD PEOPLE !!
“Is this because masks are back ordered until mid-March and you cant buy them right now?”
Not sure, but the CDC being the political animal that it is is more into “Panic Prevention” as opposed to “People Protection”
