Calif. Homeowners Forced To Pay $20K After Homeless Invade Neighborhood, Set Up Camp
Western Journal ^ | 1/29/2020 | By Andrew J. Sciascia

A number of Alameda County, California, homeowners were less than pleased to find out they are being forced to split the cost of a roughly $20,000 cleanup effort undertaken to remove a local homeless encampment.

According to KPIX, the now-abandoned encampment, situated by a creek adjacent to Walsh Property Management’s 75-residence Castro Valley housing development, was made known to local authorities as early as 2017.

Misunderstandings, however, as to whose land the camp sat on and who would be responsible — Alameda County, East Bay Regional Parks or the nearby development’s Lakewood Home Owners Association — led to nearly 2 years of inaction.

And come August 2019, when the county finally determined the camp did in fact spill over onto development land, the cost of that inaction was to be shouldered by members of the HOA — which is overseen by Walsh Property Management — to the tune of $300 per homeowner.

Homeowner husband: We just got a bill for cleaning up that homeless camp.
Homeowner wife: That’s outrageous! We can’t afford it.

Homeowner husband: By the way, I’ll be voting straight Democrat again this year.
Homeowner wife: Me too.

I have a similar issue here in Nashville except the city and Catholic Church and other liberal churches enable it

we have a hobo camp bordering commercial property with a Lowe’s and wall mart etc that numbers over 1000 in warm weather

These are not folks who can’t pay mortgage or rent

They are alcohol and drug addicts and psychological issues from mild to extreme

The lucid ones readily admit they do it voluntarily

Camp

Get high

Beg or steal

Beats working

It’s insane we tolerate this

They even have sectors

The good folk live up high where it takes effort to walk up the hill

The rough crowd is in the flats where it’s easier

A funeral home adjoins this area. They had to fence off the back as did Lowe’s

Four deaths back there last year

Murders and ODs

Most have family that sends them money...

The funeral home gets the unclaimed or the others with family because it’s right there....cheaper......some go to potters field or are cremated

It’s a den of meth more than anything besides booze

We need that in Nashville except the cops will arrest you for molesting the precious homeless

They will become conservatives instantly. The 300 is NOTHING compared to the loss in value to their homes. If they have any sense they should prepare to protest all future home valuations.

“One night the good men of the community including my grandpa went out with baseball bats and took care of the situation.

No more bums and never had a problem with bums ever again.

45 years later I still can remember her telling me this story.”

This will happen again, if it hasn’t already.

“My second boss in California grew up in St. Louis. He told us storied of the beat cops whacking the bums sleeping in doorways and on park benches with their billy clubs. They would usually get a good whack onto bottom of their feet and were told to “get moving.” The problem was kept to a minimum with good old beat-cop enforcement.”

An early version of the broken window theory in action.

There used to be laws against loitering, panhandling, and vagrancy. I’m guessing those were deemed “mean” or “racist” or something.

The depression was a real bad time for so many. Desperate people do desperate things.

I don’t know how californians keep voting for this. IN some city, they are now FINING stores if their shopping carts are stolen and end up on public property.

The homeowners should be pitching new tents and setting up campsites, food trucks and needle exchanges.

No need for that. They should invite the homeless to move into their homes. The libs who have those stupid "hate has no home here" signs on their front lawns shouldn't have any reason to object.

Run the bodies through a big meat grinder. Lots of hungry dogs out there.

“Desperate people do desperate things”

No. Desperate people with no moral compass and no incentive to behave do desperate things.

I have been desperate. No food for days desperate (I was a minor). I chose not to be thief.

I went to college in Nashville. Lipscomb. Early 1970s. I can’t even imagine what you’re saying.
