Sen. Rand Paul's (R-Ky.) attempt to ask about the whistleblower whose report helped spark the impeachment inquiry is running into a roadblock in the form of Chief Justice John Roberts.
A source confirmed that Roberts has indicated he would not read a question from Paul regarding the whistleblower at the center of the House impeachment inquiry.
The question from Paul is expected to name the individual. Because Roberts is responsible for reading the questions that would put him in the position of publicly outing the person on the Senate floor.
Paul indicated to reporters after a closed-door Republican dinner that he was not backing from trying to ask his question.
Its still an ongoing process; it may happen tomorrow, the libertarian-leaning senator told reporters as he headed back to the Senate chamber.
The Senate is in its first of two days for senators to question both House managers and President Trump's legal team.
Senators have been submitting their questions to Republican leadership, who were responsible for weeding out duplicate questions.

Balls to the wall, Senator Paul. It’s now or never. We make a stand now, or there is no making a stand later. Sad. Hard to swallow. But that is what it comes down to. Do it.
Roberts has ZERO power to make or even enforce a decision regarding the operation of the Senate as the Trial jury of Articles of Impeachment.
Absolutely no power whatsoever to do this. The Hill is pulling little dewberries out of their own a@@ and pretending to be able to bestow powers to the role Roberts plays in this— which notably is separate from his actual power role as Chief Justice of SCOTUS. No way he “passes rulings” over the Senate. The Senate should, if he tries to do this, have McConnell stand up and say— Case Dismissed by unanimous consent, and The President is acquitted of all the charges, admissable and inadmissable.
Yep. Total agreement. Needs to go.
Considering the NSA domestic spying capabilities, my money is on blackmail.
I just tuned in and I only hear questions targeting the President’s team. Are the Democrat managers not having to answer questions? No questions for shiff or Nadler?
.... They have dirt on him .... So he will do what they ask ... at the appointed times necessary ...
“I dont trust Roberts”
Ditto. HOPE he is not the final decision re witnesses or anything else.
yep, Schiff seems pretty confident about Roberts ruling on issues.......
HELL NO!
This is ridiculous!
Roberts is a fool to give this any respect or serious consideration.
Just curious. Has any previous whistleblower remained anonymous?
Pam Bondi referenced the Ken Vogel Politico article that described a meeting in August 2016 where NSC officials told Ukrainian prosecutors to get dirt on Trump. The attendees of the meeting needed to be escorted into the WH by the responsible NSC official for the meeting. The host had to sign for them in the WH register.
The question from Rand Paul to Pam Bondi should be to read the names of all the attendees and the host and ask why none of these officials including the host were questioned by the House about the election meddling the President referenced on his call to Zelensky.
The host of the meeting was Eric Ciaramella.
there. fixed it.

A Supreme Court Justice can be removed with 67 votes.
No confidence, just saying.
They’ve been on a lot - you must have just caught it when the Prez team got a few in a row.
Schitt has been on ad nauseam.
No, they are identified before charges are brought.
They are not anonymous when they participate in depositions and court appearances. They are subject to cross examination.
.
Because right or wrong, he has a fleet of lawyers lined up to sue for millions of dollars if his name is disclosed by a government official under THEIR theory that he is protected. That would result in a settlement that would enrich the little prick to the tune of millions of dollars of taxpayer money.
It is unnecessary to ask the question because there aren’t going to be any witnesses anyway.
