The question phase of the Senate impeachment trial of President Trump kicks off at 1 p.m. ET Wednesday with senators getting their first chance to weigh in formally on the six days of opening arguments theyve sat silently through.
The 100 senators will still have to keep quiet, however, and only submit their questions in writing to Chief Justice John Roberts.
Sworn in as impartial jurors in the trial, the senators will direct their questions to either the House impeachment managers or to Trumps defense team. Roberts will read the questions aloud and he can identify the questioners, like what was done in former President Bill Clintons trial 20 years ago.
Democrats and Republicans will alternate questions. Senators can work together to submit a group question, too.
The question period can take no longer than 16 hours and will run through Wednesday and Thursday.
The big wildcard is Friday, when senators will vote on whether to open up the trial to new witnesses and evidence.

Are these fools under oath when they answer questions???
With Communists, Democrats, and Swampsters, this matters how?
Q2: The whistleblower, Chairman Schiff, and the Committee's staff are fact witnesses in the reporting period of the July phone call. In order for the Senate to determine is this episode is a scandal to cover a coup attempt, why can't these witnesses be called?
Q3: Why is the Senate being asked to serve as both the jury and prosecutor in these proceedings ?
Q4: Even is acquitted, do the Articles as presented somehow obstruct Mr. Trump from running for re-election?
“What is your name?”
“What is your quest?”
“What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen Romney?”
Q: Mr Schiff, just how old was that girl?
Good question. Congressman were not sworn in. Were house managers?
Someone just asked the first question. Slow talking .possibly collins?
Now Roberts is asking the question.
I guess some want to stay anonymous.
Q5: Mister Chief Justice: According to the Constitution, can the president be impeached and removed for acts which are neither High Crimes nor misdemeanors?
won’t matter- schiff was i believe, under oath when he lied during the 22 hours of democrats speeches/rants at beginning of trial, and noone is holding him accountable for perjury
only republicans are held to account- had a republican lied- they would have at the very least been thrown out of the trial- and likely even prosecuted themselves-
“When did Donald Trump stop beating his wife?”
So... if there is no crime, why are we here?
These are actually the questions being asked?
I’m flabbergasted.
According to the rules, these questions cannot be asked anonymously.
No need to gast your flabber. Those are MY questions...out of frustration.
#SinceTheCallWasLegitYouMustAcquit
Watched about 20 minutes and it is nothing but a dog and pony show from both sides it seems. Lots of coordination prior to today in what questions will be asked by who and the responses are pretty much all canned.
Perhaps later in the day there will be honest questions and answers.
