Opinion: Coronavirus threat needs a national emergency response. Trump's putting ours at risk.
NBC "News" ^ | January 28, 2020 | By Dr. Vin Gupta

As a pulmonologist in Seattle, near where the first case of the new coronavirus was confirmed in the United States last week, I relied heavily on the city’s hospitals, clinics and departments of health to protect our community. And they did so admirably, immediately acting decisively and shrewdly despite the fear and uncertainty that always arises with an invisible biological threat.

My colleagues and I working on the front lines of our health care system have come to expect this emergency response to be activated rapidly and effectively whenever a new health threat arises.

Yet our Homeland Security agenda doesn’t seem to reflect the urgency of this issue. Right now we’re haggling over renewing the $70 million allocation that went to upgrading our hospital infrastructure, while President Donald Trump is pushing the construction of a wall along the southern border that would cost upward of $12 billion.

For context, 22 countries have given to the World Health Organization’s Contingency Fund for Emergencies, specifically aimed at rapidly providing funds to support response efforts to global health emergencies. In 2019, these contributions totaled approximately $136 million. What’s America’s part of that pie? Nothing.

Two high-profile global health security experts departed the administration in 2018, diminishing the chances that leadership from within may change these dangerous realities. Which means that unless hospitals and providers are given the necessary financial resources, Americans may soon be more vulnerable to threats like Ebola and coronavirus that pay no attention to politics or budgetary cycles but which demand a health system ready and primed to respond.

This may explain a lot of the enemedia’s hysteria regarding coronavirus.

They’re using it in another attempt to get Trump.

You could see that coming from a mile off.
Hey Gupta, that wall will stop not only illegals carrying all kinds of diseases, it will also reduce importation of opioids which currently kill more Americans than anything else.
Who is this fool anyways?

“Right now we’re haggling over renewing the $70 million allocation that went to upgrading our hospital infrastructure, while President Donald Trump is pushing the construction of a wall along the southern border that would cost upward of $12 billion.”

This was all that was needed for me to get the point of the article.

And, by the way, what’s his plan should the virus break out in Mexico and they start all flooding-in to the US? While I prefer a wall, perhaps he thinks putting up a sign that says something like ‘Hispanic go home!’ will be sufficient?

It was only a matter of time before the scumbag media latched on to this. Had the President responded days ago with for instance shutting down air and sea traffic from China and other Nations showing significant outbreaks he would be accused of panicking. But since the situation is being monitored closely before extreme decisions are made they are beginning to accuse him of doing nothing and so endangering our country.

I mentioned on another thread the idea that the President ought to cancel his rally in Wildwood NJ where 100,000 ticket requests have been made. If any NJ, PA etc citizens who attend this rally later come down with this virus the scummedia will immediately pounce and blame Trump for endangering lives in order to get re elected, iow putting politics before safety.

At the very least he should get an opinion from the CDC and other health elated organizations within the government.

He's someone whose country of origin is likely going to need his services far more than the US will, within a few weeks.

This is why the GOP-e is suicidal by insisting on importing hordes of H1-Bs and other foreigners: they all instinctively lean left, having no cultural tradition in Christianity or Constitutional rights.

I'll bet he's just pissed off that Third-World countries will continue to be hardest hit despite his best efforts to undermine Trump.

...by the way, leading indications are that the coronavirus is, literally, a bioweapon. The complete gene sequence shows large-scale novel structures not found in its closest natural analogues -- one professor of evolutionary biology at University of Edinburgh said nobody who knows anything think this virus mutated naturally.

It also contains receptors which enable it to bind to receptors deep in the lungs, like SARS and unlike the common flu.

And China has / had a level-4 biocontainment facility right in Wuhan.

Oh, but letting and helping illegals in who add to illness of USA citizens let alone harm and kill them is just fine and not a national emergency?

This virus leak just as purposeful to harm people and the world as man made illegal immigration worldwide.

...his rally in Wildwood NJ where 100,000 ticket requests have been made.

I've read that it's up to 175,000. A Trump epidemic?

Is President Trump’s response riskier than Obama bringing people with Ebola into the USA?
