Bolton’s Former Top Deputy Blasts Bolton’s Book Maneuvering As ‘Dangerous’ And ‘Inexplicable’
The Federalist ^ | January 27, 2020 | Chrissy Clark

Posted on 01/27/2020 3:40:26 PM PST by McGruff

Former National Security Adviser John Bolton is publishing a tell-all book about his time in the Trump administration. The book is scheduled for release this March, but Bolton’s former Chief of Staff, Fred Fleitz, penned an op-ed for Fox News calling on Bolton to withdraw his book from publication.

“I don’t understand the need for a former National Security Adviser to publish a tell-all book critical of a president he served,” Fleitz said. “Especially during a presidential reelection campaign that will determine the fate of the country. There will be a time for Bolton to speak out without appearing to try to tip a presidential election.”

Fleitz called Bolton’s book release unprecedented and dangerous, citing former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, who exited the Obama administration in June 2011. Gates published “Duty: Memoirs of a Secretary at War,” a book which highlighted the incompetence of both the Obama National Security Council and former Vice President Joe Biden. Gates withheld his publication date for January 2014, understanding his scathing tell-all could have an effect on the 2012 election outcome. Fleitz believes Bolton should uphold Gates’ precedent....

“Presidents must be able to candidly consult with their advisers without worrying they will leak these discussions to the press or obtain high-dollar book contracts to publish them,” Fleitz said. “[This book] may set a dangerous precedent since it could discourage future presidents from seeking advice from expert advisers on sensitive national security matters.”

Bolton was a fan of the Bush’s who hate President Trump. Also he’s a disgruntled employee after getting canned!

My observation: Bolton is a narcissist, having watched him on Fox in countless interviews. He loves the limelight. Ditto for Willard Romney.

Why or how that "need" is stronger than to protect the Republic, only a psychiatrist could say.

I’m looking forward to 2025 when “The Art of Draining the Swamp” comes out.

I doubt that Bolton says much about Ukraine in his book. It'll likely be more about moles in the Whitehouse and other ambassadors obstructing the President's policies.

We'll see.

I don't think he is really disgruntled. Look at the timeline. He was "fired" on September 10th. The aid was released on September 11th.

The President let him go to get him out of the web that was being spun to "catch" the President.

Again, not so fast. This is phrased carefully to look like more than it is.

(See picture of text)

“Preferred” being the key word here. In any case, the aid was sent on and there was no deal. No investigation. Trump sought materials they already had – not a new investigation.
Now the rest of the story and there’s less there than meets the eye.

Bolton’s appt to the UN was held up for weeks by the Democrats during the Bush administration due to sexual harassment claims. Where there’s smoke there’s often fire. I’m just saying.

I can explain it. Neocons in DC will never be in a position to give him a job again. I think Bolton realizes his new democrat/media friends will drop him after impeachment so this is a last chance to make a buck. Problem for this a$$hole is the book comes out after impeachment when he is useless and meaningless. Anyway everyone will already know what’s in the book. He’ll sell even fewer books because of this stunt.

Exactly. The old Bushie neocon whore is selling America out for 30 pieces of silver. He would love to take out Trump, and return the GOP to it’s rightful neocon owners. he would be quite happy with Pence.

“Bolton can never have a serious political/government job again,”

Sure he can. The neocon GOPe loves him. Anyone of the Bush wing would hire him in an instant. I think even Pence would be comfortable with him. He is far more GOPe than Trump. He has been silent through this whole mess. He didn’t even fore Jennifer Williams.

Bolton has lots of job prospects if he hurts Trump. And the SOB could kill all of this right now by going on Hannity and solidly saying Trump did nothing wrong and there was nothing improper he saw.

But he lets the kabuki dance go on.

The timing of the book ......and the leak...... profits Bolton alone.

We demand to know:
<><> when he negotiated the book deal
<><> when he submitted the ms
<><> when he got the publisher's approval

My beloved husband advised me Bolton never met a war he didn’t like and he was such a Deep Stater it was actually scary.

Pres Trump didn’t have a deep bench of folks he could count on to assist him and had to take the word of folks as to who was good to work with...

...so many of those folks were themselves vile.

It’s not yet at all clear that Bolton’s book says what the NYT says it says. \

True.

But Bolten could speak up and address what was said in the NYT. It doesn't look like he's going to do that.
