Equity Warriors: Viewing discrimination as deeply rooted, municipal and school officials are pushing controversial new programs to boost minority outcomes.
City Journal ^ | Winter 2020 | Steven Malanga

New Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot took office in May facing major worries, among them the city’s woefully underfunded pensions, a projected $800 million budget deficit, and one of America’s highest large-city crime rates. Yet one of her first moves as mayor was to appoint . . . a chief equity officer. In her view, all of Chicago’s woes are smaller than its bigger one: it is “two cities,” where racial outcomes differ dramatically. The equity job’s purpose, as a local paper described the cabinet position, was to lead local government in “uprooting . . . inequity in just about every sector, including jobs, housing, economic development and education.” Lightfoot was inspired to create the new post partly by the Chicago Public Schools, which the year before had appointed its own equity officer and debuted a “Curriculum Equity Initiative,” which called for course work to be “fair across race, religion, ethnicity and gender; and culturally relevant with the mindful integration of diverse communities, cultures, histories and contributions.”

Many Americans probably have never heard of a “chief equity officer,” but it may be the hottest new job in municipal government. The emergence of the position is part of a broader movement to get local governments to look beyond the fundamental American ideals of equal treatment and opportunity and instead demand equity, which generally means the achievement of similar outcomes for all groups. While certain programs pursued under the equity banner—minority contracting set-asides, say—have been around for years, others are newer and more radical.

The equity movement presumes that any unequal results in society reflect structural or institutional racism, even when officials can’t identify any actual discrimination. To redress these purported inequities, the movement demands that every city department’s mission, and every major decision in local government, be looked at from a racial-equity

You can't equalize results between races that differ by one standard deviation in intelligence, differ in how much fathers invest in their children, and differ in propensity for violence.

Well, if you go to a government school and get a government result and use it to get a government job and put in a performance good enough for government work then it all comes together.

It's "1984", but it advances The Agenda.

“Viewing discrimination as deeply rooted, municipal and school officials”...

are intentionally discriminating, thereby perpetuating the problem.

Just had a conversation with a friend the other day about racism. If we go back to the 50s and 60s there was racism, not only black and white but also cultures. But look how far everyone has come. I truly feel that there will always be racism to a certain extent from all sides no matter what. Everyone is forgetting that us humans are not perfect and never will be.

There will always be racism so long as the left gets to define it.

Nobody saw that one coming. Demonicrats are fixated on fluff over substance because they have no solutions.

I wish they’d quit pushing the “victim narrative” and start pushing strong work ethics and studious behavior. Also don’t commit crimes and don’t get pregnant while in school.

“...deeply rooted...”??? Hardly.

All that stuff was wholly invalidated the day “O” was inaugurated… the FIRST time.

Just for good measure, and to permanently burn it into the US national character, it was reinforced on the occasion of his SECOND inauguration.

Dirty politics, media bias and voter fraud are much MORE ‘deeply rooted’ than any type or degree of class or race mentality in American voters. “O’s” TWO inaugurations forever PROVE it.

Don’t believe it? Just turn on your TV, pick up a magazine, listen to the radio….. etc.

Why not just give non-Whites everything free? why not pass them on exams even if they fail? why not blame Whitey for all their failures?

Wait - that’s what they’re already doing.

Unfortunately city, state and many federal government people don’t see it that way. In their view, all the problems stem from your privilege and your keeping your boot on their necks.

The 2nd two can certainly adequately make up enough for the first one enough to supply one a good job and good family and good life for themselves and family when they are an adult.

You are correct.

Unfortunately, it is not always chosen.

I was in and out of the hospital at one time because of an ongoing injury and I met a lot of black CNAs that were studying for nursing etc. while working, they were VERY kind to me, a little more than half seemed very smart, the others seemed of adequate intelligence...

There’s no excuse for the large numbers that choose to stay home and/or commit horrible acts..I lived in the projects and the horror stories i’ve seen of how they treat women and children makes one’s skin crawl.

What some people call racism, other people call "noticing significant statistical variations in certain characteristics among genetic groups".

Otherwise known as human biodiversity.

Here is my solution. Swap all the people in El Salvador with all the white heterosexuals in US. Wait 50 years and then try to figure out why El Salvador now rules the world.

Because, with these people, it's always about race: their own. The foundations of her city could be collapsing, but she'll still obsess over imagined racial slights directed toward blacks.

They'll keep it alive till "Kingdom Come." And we'll never hear the end of it, no matter how much we give.
