Bernie: ‘Impossible’ To Know How Much My $60 Trillion In Plans Cost. CBS News Grills Him. ($73,700 a year for family of 4)

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) was grilled on Friday during an interview on CBS News after he claimed that no one knew how much his estimated $60 trillion in government programs were going to cost.

“While the new spending programs Sen. Bernie Sanders has proposed in his presidential campaign would at least double federal spending over the next decade, he has faced almost no questions from other candidates or the media – on the eve of the last debate before primary voting begins – about how he would implement or finance such a massive increase,” CNN reported last week, noting that his plan “would potentially bring his 10-year total for new spending to around $60 trillion, or more.”

“You are a self-proclaimed socialist,” CBS News’ Norah O’Donnell began.

“‘Democratic,’ put in there please,” Sanders shot back.

“Thank you. Your agenda has promised free health care for everybody, free college tuition, and to pay off people’s college loans,” O’Donnell continued. “The price tag for that is estimated to be $60 trillion over ten years, correct?”

“Well look, we have political opponents who come up –” Sanders responded.

“You don’t know? You don’t know how much your plan costs?” O’Donnell pressed.

“You don’t know; nobody knows,” Sanders responded. “This is impossible to predict.”

“You’re going to propose a plan to the American people, and you’re not going to tell them how much it costs?” O’Donnell persisted.

“Of course I will,” Sanders responded. “Do you know exactly what health care costs will be – one minute – in the next ten years if we do nothing? It will be a lot more expensive than a Medicare for All single payer system.”

The estimated $60 trillion price tag for Sanders’ socialist agenda may be a generously low estimate

$60 trillion over 10 years for a country with population of 330 million is $6e13/(10*3.3e8) = $18,200 a year per person, or $73,700 for a family of 4.

In other words, cost is irrelevant when your end game is the Cloward-Pivens strategy. The more over the top the better.

And everyone who supports him believes they will be exempt from paying for any of it.

Democratic Socialists only accept outcomes of democratic elections which produce socialism.

What ever they think it will cost, better triple it.

How much pot would that buy a liberal family of four? And would those families be willing to make that sacrifice just see ‘ol Bernie in the Oval Office?

Put it in terms these butt-munches can relate to.

Q: How much is spent on health care now as a percent of GDP?

A: 17.7%

So, $17.7 of $22T = $4T/year. So Bernie, what is the extra $2T for?

No, the amount spent on private insurance premiums goes to zero. So that must be factored int the equation.

How much does a family of four currently pay for health care? The USA’s GDP is $22T and healthcare eats 17.7% of that. So calculate that for the group.

What I like about AOC and Bernie campaigning together is, they claim the country is in a deep depression, and if Bernie is elected and imposes his taxation, we will be in a depression overnight! And AOC will come out and see “See? I told you so!” never mind that Bernie and the communists caused the depression. Bernie, a well known communist, is taking over the Democrat Party

Any large change in healthcare in the US would have very broad effects that would reverberate throughout the economy.

Currently, ~11% of American jobs are in healthcare (some estimates put it at one in every eight jobs). This includes a broad array of different types of jobs (in medical device and equipment design and manufacturing, pharmaceutical industry, insurance industry, medical supply industry, construction of health care facilities, transportation of medical supplies and of patients, food services, etc., etc.).

Healthcare-related stocks are a in pretty much everyones 401K investments.

These are just two broad categories of healthcare involvement in the economy that have to be factored in to the effects of any dramatic change how health care is delivered and paid for in the US. Government involvement in healthcare contributed significantly to the mess we are in currently, and it is highly unlikely that more government involvement and control will fix it.

Oh, so where were all the hypocrite Republicans who were worried about economic disruption when 55,000 factories were closed and millions lost there jobs to offshoring? Hmmm?

Yeah, nice try no sale.

And once Stalinism, er, “Socialism”, is “elected”, there is no longer any need for “’Democratic’ elections.” We’ve seen this dog and pony show before. It always has a lousy ending and too much blood and gore.

Actually, that example is exactly what I’m talking about. Poorly thought out policies, pushed by politicians who either don’t know or don’t care about the consequences, can hurt a lot of people.

The government could have prevented the economic catastrophe of off shoring with a simple 20% across the board tariff.

I agree, but if government had instead become involved by socializing American industries, it wouldn’t have been a good solution and wouldn’t have turned out well. That’s what Sanders is pushing. Socializing a huge chunk of the US economy - not to mention the more important thing, which is what his inane policies would do to the quality and accessibility of health care.

The problem with regulations, taxes and socialism are one thing. But gutting the heart of the economy to “fight” it was crazy.
