On Thursday, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, which takes stock of the threats posed by nuclear war and climate change each year, moved the Doomsday Clock to 100 seconds before midnight. We are now measuring how close the world is to catastrophe in seconds -- not hours, or even minutes. It is the closest to Doomsday we have ever been since the clock was created in 1947.

I was born the same year the “doomsday clock” was created. In high school days I paid attention to it because I was raised hearing the “duck and cover” public service announcements on TV. Sometime in college I realized that the “Atomic Scientists” that ran it were only focused on the United States abolishing its nuclear weapons and NOT the Soviets, thus I decided that it was a pro-Soviet organization.
I don’t know when they added “climate change” as I don’t pay attention to their blatherings, but I’m guessing that its is probably in the last dozen years or so. Why have the added it: trying to “keep relevant” in a world without the Soviet Union and that both the US and Russia have reduced their nuclear arsenals. I don’t know if they factor in the North Korean and Iranian working on nuclear weapons as a threat.
