On Thursday, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, which takes stock of the threats posed by nuclear war and climate change each year, moved the Doomsday Clock to 100 seconds before midnight. We are now measuring how close the world is to catastrophe in seconds -- not hours, or even minutes. It is the closest to Doomsday we have ever been since the clock was created in 1947.

What a crock, the Chinese Virus is potentially worse that any nuclear attack at this point.
“an information environment so corrupted that it is almost impossible for concerned governments and citizens to mobilize the consensus for necessary action.”
Must shut down the internet. The people are getting too much information. Might decide that global warming is a scam. CNN must be the sole source of information for the masses.
OK, I can see a doomsday being created by nuclear war. That was the left’s first fit they were throwing in the 60’s. At least there was a glimmer of reality there.
But when I saw climate change was added, I quit reading.
And I agree with the commentary people finding out the truth is a huge issue for the lefties.
But there is a solution. In the 60’s I recall some of them either having or saying they should have cyanide pills to end it all. Maybe they will reinvent that solution for climate change, as it would be quicker than that slow death taking 12 years.

Its OK. Nuclear winter will offset global warming....
Funny this should come up, being an election year and all ... but we're really concerned, being concerned scientists and all, and not biased at all or anything...
Why should I listen to the pronouncements of an organization that’s been continuously wrong for 73 years?
As soon as I saw that the source was “CNN” I assigned it zero credibility.
I’ve been listening to these flakes since the early 70’s.
By far the most dangerous time was under JFK when he underestimated the willingness of Khrushchev to use nuclear weapons during Cuba Crisis.
We nearly got our entire task force destroyed by a nuclear torpedo launched by a Soviet Sub.
Only the Sub commander refusing to fire saved us from WW3.
“It is the closest to Doomsday we have ever been since the clock was created in 1947.”
As Ronald Reagan mentioned in a speech, the only thing that staves off a thousand years of darkness for the world is a strong and free America.
It takes four authors now to tell us something we already heard?
Four authors?
Free Republic Rules take over here: the more authors, the more BS.
The headline is redundant. Of course the advance of time brings us closer each second to the apocalypse. Time doesn’t move backward, yo.
Be very afraid. Today you are closer to your death than you were yesterday.
Dr. Raymond Stantz: Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling!
Dr. Egon Spengler: Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes...
Winston Zeddemore: The dead rising from the grave!
Dr. Peter Venkman: Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

11 months until Christmas...
Yep. Eventually a world ruled by man will reach its doomsday. And when you see the fundamental changes that have taken place in the last 70 years, it’s pretty obvious it’s pretty ripe and about ready to be harvested.

I stopped taking that “clock” seriously in the late 70’s. I didn’t know it was still a thing.
