WASHINGTON -- Senate Republicans said lead impeachment prosecutor Adam Schiff insulted them during the trial by repeating an anonymously sourced report that the White House had threatened to punish Republicans who voted against President Donald Trump.
Schiff, who delivered closing arguments for the prosecution, was holding Republican senators rapt as he called for removing Trump from office for abusing his power and obstructing Congress. Doing anything else, he argued, would be to let the president bully Senate Republicans into ignoring his pressure on Ukraine for political help.
“CBS News reported last night that a Trump confidant said that key senators were warned, ‘Vote against the president and your head will be on a pike.’ I don’t know if that’s true,” Schiff said.
After that remark, the generally respectful mood in the Senate immediately changed. Republicans across their side of the chamber groaned, gasped and said, “That’s not true.” One of those key moderate Republicans, Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, looked directly at Schiff, shook her head and said, “Not true.”
“Not only have I never heard the ‘head on the pike’ line,” Collins said in a statement, “but also I know of no Republican senator who has been threatened in any way by anyone in the administration.”
It wasn’t immediately clear what impact, if any, Schiff’s comment would have on upcoming votes on witnesses and the ultimate question of whether Trump should be removed from office.

Another article mentions that 21 Republican and 2 Democrat senators were out of the room during Schiff’s closing remarks.
THAT’S rapt alright...
- Arab oil embargo doubled oil prices.
- The ensuing economic recession.
- Nixon abandoning his Conservative base long before that with the founding of the EPA and other leftist government agencies.
Fast forward 45 years- the economy's booming, favorable trade deals, recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's Capitol, Trump cutting down weasel politicians the way we Normal People have done for decades, 95% GOP, 35-40% Democrats, 35% African-American, and 45-50% Hispanic support.
I still believe that, on the whole, the GOP House and Senate still despise Trump. However, they see these internal poll numbers and they know which side their bread is buttered on. Even Murkowski and Collins will sound like Rush Limbaugh-listening, flag-waving, supply-side economic-loving, commie-mocking Conservatives.
I don’t care if this guy is in a safe district the GOP needs to field a challenger for him.

Typical Schiff smear tactics masquerading as "evidence" - anonymous, third-hand, non-attributed rumor. H*ll, Schiff himself won't even vouch for its veracity ("I don't know if that's true"...) but he wants it entered into the Congressional Record like it was the truth!
Are people who live in his district really that stupid or really that evil, that they would believe anything he says any more?
