Every hostile nickname that Mitch McConnell gets is further confirmation of his effectiveness.
The latest is “Midnight Mitch,” a reaction to his resolution setting out the road map for the Senate impeachment trial. The measure stipulated that House impeachment managers could make their case over two days of 12-hour sessions, possibly pushing the presentations into the wee hours. Hence, the latest alliterative moniker for McConnell, also known to his enemies as “Moscow Mitch.”
McConnell relented slightly on the resolution, giving the managers – and the president’s team – three days, instead of two, for opening arguments. But he still got his way on the broader question of how to run the trial – unsurprisingly, because McConnell is a master at what he does.
When all is said and done, he’ll be remembered as one of the most effective Senate majority leaders in the modern era. A portion of an early Democratic presidential debate was devoted to asking candidates how they’d get around McConnell as president – and none of them had a good answer. He now looms as a hate figure for the left at the same time he’s won the grudging admiration of conservatives who once scorned him as too establishmentarian.

Based on what? Confirming Judges are a basic function any Majority Leader delivers to a POTUS of the same party.
Was Obamacare repealed? Nope. Permanent personal tax cuts? Nope. Wall funding? Nope. Obama Iran deal greased? Yep.
There is a much stronger case that McConnell has been the least effective Majority Leader in modern times. At this very moment he is unable to whip votes to dismiss Stalinist impeachment articles in support of a GOP POTUS under seditious assault. How pathetic is that?

Well, the Reid Rule deserves mention: the abolition of the filibuster of judicial nominees makes all the difference.
In hindsight it was wrong of the Senate majority not to institute the “Pelosi Rule” - which I now propose, and name after the politician who famously argued that non-bipartisan impeachment would damage the country.My proposed "Pelosi Rule” would require at least 55 (perhaps 60) votes for the Senate to take up an impeachment from the House. After all, it takes 67 senate votes to convict - if there is absolutely no prospect of a conviction in the Senate - there is no virtue in wasting the time of the Chief Justice of SCOTUS. Let alone the that of the entire Senate.

Trump’s legal defense team doesnt’ get to present its case until Saturday, a weekend day on which few people will be watching the trial or listening to the evening news coverage.
The opening day for ANY defense is a critical. So how exactly does that help the president publicize his case and win the PR battle when the viewership is obviously down?
It doesn’t look like Mitch is the “genius” some people think he is. Rather it appears he is being outmaneuvered by the crafty House Dems who already managed to call their ‘virtual’ witnesses via video during their presentations.

Agree. The senate should have immediately dismissed this charade which is based entirely on lies, heresay, and a secretive process akin to a kangaroo court.
By refusing to dismiss the case the senate is wasting valuable time, and worse, it is effectively legitimizing this destructive travesty.
How did an imbecile like the unattractive Maxine Waters become a multimillionaire? Now there is an investigation we ought to have.
My guess is Maxine is legit, her money was earned legally as a star feature in a freak show!

As far as i’m concerned Mitch proved his worth when the Republican’s took control of the Senate and he shut down all of Obama’s judicial nominees and fortunately saved them for President Donald Trump as luck would have it.
