I love my three-legged cat and believe me, emotional support goes both ways especially during both of our feeding times. But the Department of Transportation has it right in proposing to allow airlines to bar passengers from bringing their self-described support animals on-board flights.
On Jan. 22, DOT proposed narrowing regulations to require only that airlines allow specially trained dogs on planes. This planned change has already drawn plenty of ire. A vocal minority of passengers will inevitably complain that theyre being targeted by the government. But these critics are all bark and no bite.

It got out of hand long ago and the entire concept of support animalsjust like handicapped parkinghas been destroyed by the lazy and fraudsters.
Any of these so-called support animals do not belong on planes. I case of emergency they’d cause massive problems during an evacuation. If people are so emotionally unstable they need support animals where ever they go they should hire a minder to go with them on flights.
Do the flight attendants get stuck with the cleanup?
Exactly! It's all tied into the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) that Bush signed back in the 1990s. Once judges decided that businesses had no right to exclude people with "support" animals, the emotional support pet scam took off like a rocket.
I don't know which sickens me more, that the medical community eagerly embraced this rubbish or that so many fragile snowflakes actually believe they need fluffy or fido with them to get on an airplane. My sister has allergies to pet dander and practically can't fly anymore because of this lunacy.
Freaks shouldn’t be allowed to fly.
Anybody can get a letter saying their animal is a support animal. It's a total fraud. Google "who can certify a support animal" and the top listing is an ad for a site that says "ADA Compliant for Housing and Flying on Plane We Have Helped Thousands with their ESA. Get a Free ESA Vest With All Order Dec Holiday Special 24 Hour Service..."
If someone needs a support animal to fly, they shouldn't be flying.
I think if airlines would have better service for transporting pets, there wouldn't be so many of these. I know someone who got their dog certified as a support animal because they didn't want the dog in the hold on a flight to Europe.
Agreed. A nice minivan would work just fine.
I read of a guy to prove a point got his bee hive registered as an emotional support animal.
In case of an emergency, these non-crated animals are a danger.
I see them as an improvised air bag in a crash situation.
What about their flags?
On March 23, 2017 'freak flag' was added to the OED, with Jimi Hendrix as the first source! After "If Six Was Nine" song it was referenced by Crosby Stills and Nash in "Almost Cut My Hair. Refers to unconventional behavior perceived by others.
Part of a sting operation.
Should have been a lot of paperwork to register each bee.
Just say here’s a teddy bear. This is your emotional support or you fly not.
A cage in the cargo bay for the pet and a couple of Valium for the neurotic ought to make everyone happy.
Maybe a couple of doggie downers for the pet, too.
Oh, no! If this goes through, my emotional support honey badger, Rupert, will no longer be allowed to fly with me! Whatever shall I do?
actually, they should just stay home.
Love it! At work I am allowed only to ask if a random animal is a service animal and what service it provides.
I get annoyed with barking dogs, dogs running around in carts, dogs running around on the floor... I swear I saw ferrets in a shopping basket once.
You can tell the genuine service animals.
Very Good
