Did you see all those white people winning awards at the Golden Globes? What about all those white people winning awards at the Screen Actors Guild ceremony? Why are white people winning so many acting awards from left-wing Hollywood elitists so quick to call everyone else a racist? Are they racists themselves?
The answer to that last question is yes, they are.
Like most problems in life, the problems Hollywood is facing are of their own making. For decades theyve been lecturing the public on every issue facing the country, obediently parroting the Democratic Party talking point without question or fail. Now those standards are being held against them and its glorious.
Not only were the vast majority of Golden Globe winners white, so were nearly all the nominees. The woke crowd, funded and supported by liberal Hollywood money, was upset. Where were the nominees of color? they wondered. What they didnt ask or answer was where were the serious movies with amazing performances staring non-white actors? After all, you cant nominate what doesnt exist.
With rare exception, Hollywood wont produce movies with minority casts. Not the big studios with big budgets, anyway. Small films, art house movies that dont cost much are where youll find black casts and directors. They win awards sometimes, but are always met with self-congratulatory pats on the back about how diverse Hollywood is rather than larger budgets and wider distribution for their next projects.
Its a hypocrisy Hollywood cant address, and are not asked about by the slobbering entertainment media. But they should be.
As for this years nominees being almost exclusively white, I honestly couldnt care less. (Though I do laugh at headlines like SAG Awards Recognize Mostly White Actors After Oscars Diversity Backlash from the Hollywood Reporter.)
There are only so many nominations to go around, usually just 5 per category. What those complaining fail to cite is anyone who was nominated who shouldnt have been. Whining about someone who wasnt nominated simply to diversify the field carries no weight when you cant point to someone who was nominated as a result of their skin color.
The mere argument that someone should have been nominated to diversify the field is condescending beyond belief, and racist (they cant compete on talent alone, so we must make special accommodations for them). The years Denzel Washington won his Oscars he won because he gave amazing performances. Hes a Grammy away from completing the EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony). His shelves arent overrun with trophies because hes black or they decided to throw him a bone, its because hes amazingly talented. But to insist on quotas or token nominations simply to make sure the nominees are different colors of people would cheapen his accomplishments. He EARNED those awards, just as the nominees this year earned their shot.
A couple of years ago, when #OscarsSoWhite became a trendy cause of the moment, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences changed their membership rules to make it less white and younger. They celebrated themselves as champions of diversity and progressive thought, and just a couple of years later nothing changed. Maybe the problem isnt who is voting, maybe the problem is deeper than that.
As with most things, if they really wanted to change theyd put their money where their mouth is. When studios are willing to put up $90 million to make Bad Boys 3 but only $17 million to make a movie about Harriet Tubman, maybe thats the problem?
Cynthia Erivo, who plays Harriet Tubman, is nominated for best actress, but the movie, according to critics, isnt all that great. According to the critical consensus at Rotten Tomatoes, Harriet serves as a sincere tribute to a pivotal figure in American history -- albeit one undermined by its frustratingly formulaic approach. A bigger budget mightve attracted a better director, better supporting cast, higher production quality, and a better movie worthy of nominations beyond that for its star.
But Hollywood isnt willing to change where they put their money or what they market.
Liberals in Hollywood argue that market forces dictate where the money goes; you have to have a return on your investment, after all. Thats true. But maybe theres little return on some investments because the investment was so small in the first place?
The reason the investment doesnt happen has to do with what Hollywood thinks of the American people, not the American people themselves. Good movies attract audiences, poorly produced ones dont.
Everyone in the audiences at the Golden Globes and the SAG Awards, especially the actors and directors, could, if they wanted, get any story they wanted told made into a movie simply by committing to it. If they wanted to change Hollywood and get a black movie made all they have to do is change themselves, just a little. Theyd have to take a smaller paycheck, but they could do it. They dont.
Its not the public denying minority actors better roles in better movies, and its not the system for voting for the awards denying deserving actors their just rewards, its the people wrongly judging the public as racist doing it. Which means they are racists.
bkmk
Where a gathering of gun control advocates was taking place..
Lol!
Yeah, right.

Nice to see them eating their own

This quote made me think about “minority” movies in general.
The problem for all films like this is that they’re ‘Jackie Robinson’ movies. That’s the genre of “first minority person to do X; faces and overcomes obstacles”.
There’s nothing wrong with that kind of movie, and some are better than others, but you make enough of them and they eventually all start to look the same. You think, “I’ve seen this before.” It’s hard to put a fresh spin on films like that, even if the story is true and inspirational.
It’s one thing for mindless blockbusters to look the same and formulaic (that’s nothing new), but when Oscar-bait films look formulaic and safe, it doesn’t excite people.
I assumed they were creating this PC BS because they needed a new target audience; that certainly occurred on the small screen. A dwindling number of whites simply turn on the TV after dinner; the smart TV itself is a gateway to YouTube and other places where people can actually learn things/improve themselves, and they have a limitless supply of material available.
I’m shocked at how many movies are reboots of older ones; original ideas seem to be lacking. Even newer movies look like ripoffs of older ones...
And America’s biggest problem is hollyweird. Those fags and freaks have shaped America’s thought process for 60 years, and this is what happens when we listen to fools.
Nobody watches Hollyweird movies anymore.
I'm not much of a follower of movies, but I've always thought that the sag awards were limited to older actresses only. You mean that anyone can get them?
If you want to see a great YouTube channel, check out Andrew Camarata. Hes a young man who runs his own excavation and property maintenance company. He does all his own filming and editing. He can repair anything, from home appliances, to jet skis, to small gas engines, to automobiles, to heavy equipment. He also builds things, including a massive garage/living space out of containers on his property.
Shouldn’t they shut down Hollywierd to save the earth?
The moment race enters into a movie the movie becomes unwatchable. The race of the actor doesn’t matter if the movie is good and the actor is good.
As evidence I present “I am Legend”, “Hancock” and “I Robot”.
All Will Smith movies. He is obviously black. cast was mixed race for the most part. He did not play a black man. He played a may who just happened to be black. These movies were enjoyable and very watchable.
There are many more movies like this where people ae just people regardless of their race.
Contrast this to “roots” or any movie that shows on BET. Most people don’t care about racial history or racial struggle. We don’t care about black inner city culture. Tell us a good story and we’ll watch it.
One more that needs to be mentioned is “Hidden figures” While it did have race as a major component of the plot, it was not preaching what we need to do to fix it. It was telling the story of what was done. A good story made into a good movie.
Are we racist because we prefer to watch stories about people like us? Of course we are!!! Everyone is racist. it’s part of human nature. Most of us don’t care too much about the struggles of the average Eskimo because we are not Eskimoes.
There is nothing wrong with being racist of that sort. (actually I think “culturalist” is a far more accurate descripter. I’ve met a bunch of people from all races who share my same culture that I’d have no problem hanging out with)
Major Payne is the best movie that starred a black guy who didn’t play a black guy!
“Tell us a good story and well watch it.”
Seven Pounds - Lilies of the Field - In the Heat of the Night ...
I liked Hidden Figures. I also read a British review of the movie where the moviemakers admitted ramping up the racism in the movie. The truth? Katherine Johnson actually used any restroom she wanted.....whenever she wanted. (Just one glaring example of fiction over the truth in that movie) That soured me on the movie. PC destroys everything it touches.
Agreed. I think it helps that Will Smith doesn't project the image of "angry black man". Most of the roles I've seen him in, he strikes me as a guy I could sit in a bar and have a drink with.
